This new treatment sounds ingenius, but can a woman who wants to conceive

have this treatment, with the hope of getting successful results.

They had an article about it in the September issue of the Ladies'

Home Journal (September issue I believe). They've only done it on a

few people at this point - April was the first they used it at all.

Since , MS isn't that far from me, I'd thought of looking into

it. They've only done a few cases, and with me still wanting the

possibility of children I ruled it out. I think they think fertility

will be ok with it, but how can they know based on only a few cases?

There was some information about it on the University of Mississippi

web site as well.

I have actually called and talked to a nurse who works with the doctor

doing this. There has been great success with this procedure.

Unfortunately, they won't perform it on anyone who still wants to

conceive. She said most of the people who are going out there to do it

are older and are done having children. It is supposed to be more

safe than UAE and you feel fine the next day after the proceure. The

recovery is much faster than UAE or myomectomies. Since I have just

conceived I think I might investigate it further when I am done having

children.

I'm sure they will say it is too risky and try to keep this treatment

in the realm of the experienmental for the next 25 years.

Can anyone explain the high tech procedure that oncologists are performing

for fibroids?

Has anyone used the RU486 pill outside the United States for shrinking

fibroids? Just curious how much shrinkage? And how large the fibroids were?

I would appreciate any information about these questions.

I believe the procedure you're referring to is actually Intervention

MRI, and it is done by the same type of doctor that does the UFE

procedures. This one is very new and as far as I've heard only done

at the University of Mississippi in . What they do is freeze

the fibroids while they're looking at them with the MRI. Supposedly

it works better if you have a few large ones because they're not sure

what the extremely cold temps do to the surrounding tissue.

If you want to read the article I did about it, you might go to the

library and check out the Ladies' Home Journal September issue. They

did a feature on a lady who was mid 40's and a tennis player

(recreational)that had developed a belly because of the fibroids.

She wasn't interested in future childbearing or anything and was

really sold on the great results she'd had with the procedure -

didn't have much down time or anything. The article itself acted

like this was something that wouldn't impact childbearing, but with a

procedure that new there's just no way they could really know that.
