Guest guest
Sometimes I wonder where my daughter fits in the whole constipation thing. A brief history is that last summer, around July, she started going poop only every 4 days, sometimes she would stretch it to 6. Prior to that she had been a regular every other day go-er. The only time she ever went daily was the few weeks she was drinking milk daily. Milk really, really affected her behavior and mood, so we took her off it as well as all other dairy (gradually) and it was right around then that her movements slowed down. (Being dairy free has been great for her in many, many ways!) Generally now she goes every 4 days. We do not believe she's holding it, she doesn't appear to have anxiety about going, and when she does have to go, she'll just announce, " I have to poop, " and head to the bathroom. She doesn't strain to go, and the poop is not hard or in nuggets. It looks like normal poop (except it's a lot). Occasionally, for reasons unknown, she'll go every other day again. She's on probiotics, digestive enzymes, and flax oil. (I briefly tried Miralax, but she had a heinous meltdown and when I googled info on that is when I found this group, and decided no more Miralax). I am reluctant to use a laxative b/c her going is not difficult and she's not holding it in. The only real issue is that she only goes every 4 days, and I'm not sure how worried about that I should be. Pediatrician's only advice is Miralax Miralax Miralax until her colon is re-trained to go more often. If anyone else has suggestions or thoughts, I'd appreciate it. I keep wondering if I should even be worried. Thanks!GF
