Hi, all. I just started reading my emails after

joining last week. Wow, glad i got the " Ada stuff " .

Interesting initiation.

OK. I don't have diabetes, but i could. My doctor

thought i had it. my BP was 183 in November; 153 a

week ago. I fasted (is that correct??) and tested.

HOWEVER, i have my mom in a nursing home, and had come

by the store daily and gotten a pint of Ben & Jerrys

and eaten it; gone 2 days without sleep sitting up

with mom and her pneumonia; and eaten a ton of

jellybeans just prior to the test. DUHHHHHH.

i was told to go off my medicine after a few days, and

he will to a second " something " test in 3 months to

see the progress of my blood from the last test. I

was told to exercise, and watch my diet. OK, that's

my introduction.

My question: what do i watch? i have no clue what

carbs are, complex carbs, what turns to sugar, what is

healthy. i know a few nites ago i felt horrible

after munching on jellybeans, but good after a salad.

i know that sweets alone are not good, but is bread

OK? is there something else i should avoid? i

don't have to take my blood, so i don't test to see

what " it " is before or after meals.

sorry to be so uninformed. the doctor didn't tell me

much except " be careful. " well, careful of what?

and yes, i will call later this week. i think i'm in

the denial stage a little, and i'm trying to beat up

on my body, and i'm angry i'm not healthy as a horse,

and i don't have time for this garbage right now (and

i'm guessing i'm sounding like everyone else recently

diagnosed with Type 2) pat (TIA)

Hi,

I've just joined the list to learn more about type 2. I haven't been diagnosed,

but I did go to a health fair yesterday and had a blood test. My glucose was

181, but I hadn't fasted for 8 hours, only 5. (No one told me the test had to

be after a fast). Anywho, the nurse told me it was high and I should have it

checked by a doctor (no money, no insurance, oh dear...) I thought perhaps I

could learn what some of the symptoms of type 2 diabetes are, so I know if I

should be concerned enough to spend $$ I really can't afford for a lota lab

tests.

Thanks in advance,

Tracey DeWolf

Hi ,

You really need to be tested, that is a high reading even for fasting 5

hours. You will learn all you need and more from here. I was just

diagnosed in March and this group has been so helpful.

Friends,

181 is fairly high.

You should do something. Maybe a free clinic.

I am another newbie to the group. Type two non-insulin. Have very painful

neuropathy with the burning in my feet and hands etc.

Just wanted say to person who was apologizing for complaining. I think we all

get down and think there is no future to look forward to. I was hoping this

is that sort of group. BTW do any of you know if there is a chat line for

diabetics. Feel free to email me any time.

Test after eating those foods. 1 hour and two hrs etc. That will tell you

what's going on. I dumped the starches just like sugar.

So how do you replace the starches in the diet? My husband, and mother

too, are big on the starches. They eat alot of potatos, rice, pastas,

breads, etc. They also eat alot of sugars, but I can probably replace those

with one of the sugar substitutes so I am not as worried about that as I am

about the starches. The stuff I have been reading says stay away from the

starches, yet the diet pamphlet says 8 servings of 15 grams a day, which

even that is lower than their intake has been up to now.

Chevon:

One web site that I have seen allows the user to track bg readings,

insulin, ketones and hba1c readings. I didn't see anything about

dietary intake but there is a place on the readings input screen for

comments. The link is as follows:

https://diabetesnow.com/diabetesnow/about/public.asp

This is a web site. Therefore, the data is stored on a server as

opposed to being stored on your own personal computer. It is shown to

be a secure server.

Hope this helps.

Hi Chevon: My name is Marie. I'm new to the list,

too. I don't have diabetes but by boyfriend, Bob,

does. He is 54 years and diagnosed 7 years ago. I

feel terrible about your little boy. I hope you all

are coping as best you can. The people in this group

and very helpful and I know that the younger ones will

be able to help you adjust. Marie
