Guest guest
Jeanie, I am not sure what the point of our discussions are, since we see things SO differently. I'll be frank, I do not have the knowledge to understand the majority of what I read in the link you posted. I have not had the education to comprehend that information presented. There are too much science there I don't understand. I hate to challenge you, but I honestly want to know, Do you fully comprehend that article? Can you explain to me what the followiong means: In urological patients the most likely cause, if Golytely were to be used, would be the pressure caused by the elevation of the infusion bags and the translocation of bacterial endotoxin induced by intrumentation (13). Endotoxin releases cytokines which may open the permeability transition pores on mitochondrial membranes. This in turn may reduce the protonmotive force driving ATP resynthesis thus uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation (14,15). If not, I think it is not right to cite a tidbit from such an article as you are taking things out of context. But as to MSDS and toxicity: I don't think any of us are ingesting this powder. It is meant to be administered in a solution of at least 8 oz of liquid. The MSDS is referring to concentrated PeG3350, not the solution that we ingest. But, lets look at exactly what the MSDS sheet says: The MSDS states: Peg3350 Ingestion:Do not induce vomiting. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. If the victim is notbreathing, perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Seek immediate medical attention. Toxicity to Animals:Acute oral toxicity (LD50): 4000 mg/kg [Rat].Acute dermal toxicity (LD50): 20000 mg/kg [Rabbit]. Just for giggles I looked at sugar, table salt and vitamin c: sugar was ridiculously high 40000mg/kg, or something to that effect FRUCTOSE: Ingestion:Do NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to anunconscious person. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. Get medical attention ifsymptoms appear. Toxicity to Animals: Acute oral toxicity (LD50): 4000 mg/kg [Rat]. TABLE SALT Do NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to anunconscious person. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. Get medical attention ifsymptoms appear. Toxicity to Animals:WARNING: THE LC50 VALUES HEREUNDER ARE ESTIMATED ON THE BASIS OF A 4-HOUR EXPOSURE.Acute oral toxicity (LD50): 3000 mg/kg [Rat.].Acute dermal toxicity (LD50): >10000 mg/kg [Rabbit].Acute toxicity of the dust (LC50): >42000 mg/m3 1 hours [Rat]. ASCORBIC ACID (vitamin c) Ingestion:Do NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to anunconscious person. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. Get medical attention ifsymptoms appear. Toxicity to Animals: Acute oral toxicity (LD50): 3367 mg/kg [Mouse]. Of fructose, salt, and vitamin c, it appears that PeG3350 is the least toxic. Based on the MSDS, I disagree with your conclusion of toxicity. You and I have vastly differing points of view. You feel doctors are "going against all the info given by the company and MSDS". I disagree with your interpretation of the company's directions and the MSDS, and thus, your conclusions. I don't see how anyone's rights are being violated. These children are not being administered PeG secretly. The parents are working with scientists to try to learn and help. The problem is they are violating our rights by saying this is perfectly safe, which it contrary to the MSDS. These are children that have no choice. And for these Doctors to go agaist all the information given by the company and MSDS, made every child in the world a scientific study. Just like the one you posted. Guest guest
There is a table listing values that differ slightly from what I presented at wikipedia. I am not a fan of taking wikipedia as fact, but it is ok for comparison: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Median_lethal_dose the ascorbic acid (vitamin c) differs greatly from the msds I saw at sciencelab.com (where I gathered the MSDS's I referenced previously. The wiki article even states that the LD50 rating of toxicity is somewhat unreliable. Some of you may feel I am unreliable. that is OK.
