Guest guest
Hello my name is Evette and I have an 18 month old little girl Kamryn who has been diagnosed with plagiocephaly. We have went through the " it will round out " when she was first seen by a specialist at Denver Children's Hosp. Now they are realizing that it is not going to round out, they have suggested a re-shaping surgery. We have declined and are very optimistic in putting her in the DOC band. We have an appt. at Cranial Tech on 6-19-00. Even though we got such a late start at this, we are still really optimistic. I have spoke with many very satisfied parents. We have even met with one mom and baby in a DOC band. That was so helpful. I just want to know if anyone knows of cases where the child began treatment as late as Kamryn. I am still hoping for a great outcome but hear so many things about starting treatment early. I'd be interested in hearing about any cases that the child may have began treatment at a later age. Thanks.. Evette
Guest guest
Hi Evette! Welcome! Why did the doctors suggest a re-shaping surgery? Did they do a CT scan? Is there a fused suture involved? Guest guest
Evette, I'm from Kansas, and I met a mom at our orthotist's office who also got a late start with her son and he is now 2 and has a very nice, round, head. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results! Good luck to you! Ann ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Guest guest
Evette: Well, I'm glad you finally found out the truth! There was another mom who was told the band went for about $10,000! I'd like to know where they get their #'s!! kendra esanni8713@... wrote: Kendra, No, she does not have any sutures involved. They are all still open, they just said that it was the only possibility that she had to ever have a round head. When I first seen the neurosurgeons they told me that the DOC bands cost $7,000-10,000 and insurance would not pay for it. And I just took their word for it, that is part of the reason Kamryn is beginning treatment so late. Thanks for the response. Evette
Guest guest
Evette- First, I am so sorry that you had to go thru such bs, to get to same result (band) that they should have just given Kamryn before! What a bunch a jerks! It cracks me up that they will gladly pay for an invasive, costly surgery, get balk at $2500 - $3400 for a doc band (depending on state). I also LOVE your child's name, it is beautiful! I have a friend named " Karyn " . Just wanted to say hello, welcome & Good Luck with your upcoming appt! Guest guest
Hi Evette, My son Robbie who is 6 months has been in his band for 4 weeks now and has been doing great with it. When I saw your post mentioning the Denver Children's Hospital I remembered seeing some articles regarding how there have been concerns that they have done unecessary surgery on children in the past. The articles are located on the Cranial Tech site under the " Information Center " area. In the News Article section there are two that you may want to read: Wall Street Journal Feb 23, 1996. The Denver Post Feb 13, 1996. Thought you might be interested since you are dealing with them. Good luck to you and your daughter, it is great to hear that she will be getting her band this month! > Hello my name is Evette and I have an 18 month old little girl Kamryn > who has been diagnosed with plagiocephaly.
