Guest guest
You can have the leaking/accidents if it is to loose or if there is backup(backup is overflow). Sometimes but not always holding is mistaken for this(I see this mistake in my HD groups a lot), mothers being told there child has been holding and to discover it was truely a mechanical issue. As for in my sons case it was overflow. The intestines can be moody. You can be backed up and no leaking either. Miralax has been known for the cause of no sensation affects of needing to go. A good cleanout is always a good thing and then maintenance following. I read your other post and was a little surprised to see 4 bottles that was recommended? Are you referring to the liquid(red, clear, grape colors) of magnesium citrate in glass jars? It would typically not even take a full jar for my son and he would get severe impactions. I did have 1 doc say he could use 2, but that was never required. We found the best way was to get as much in him within in a 2 hr time frame. With it being sour this can be a little difficult for a child. They do sale grape now that isnt as sour. Yes you can try the citrate at higher mg's but at lower amounts for a few days. Natural calm is citrate but in much lower doses than the liquid citrate your doc stated(mg's verses grams, it takes 1000mg's for 1gram). The calm is much much lower. Honestly magnesium is very good for the body in all ways, every cell needs it. The overdosing is the body causing looser stools/excretion of what is not needed. Some cant do the citrate forms daily, it can be to acidic for some on the stomach. On the huge dose cleanout our old gastro said not to do more than about every 3mths that it may to acidic. Some take the gram/liquid high dose form and spread it out over about 3-4 days for the clean out. With my son have had a few of the high dose cleanouts we did notice a difference on how good it worked depending on how much water we could get in him at the time also. It seems to need water to really kick in. You could use the calm daily, if it seems to upset his tummy just make sure he has some food in there. We found that alternating supplements was best/we dont use daily and use 1 for a fews days(typically about 3 or so) and then change supplement(the ones for looser stools). I made sure I knew which supplement did what in the beginning to know each affect befor I started the rotating. You seem leary of the cleanout? A cleanout is good and gives the intestines a fresh start. I would recommend cultured yogurts or probiotics. Cleanouts I suspect can strip the intestines of good bacteria's(not 100% on that) but it is always good to include good flora in the diet anyways. If he is having any trouble moving then maybe consider the citrate(high dose) to get things cleared. Not for the cleanout but for more of loosing the stools is I use a magnesium citrate/oxide blend. This doesnt seem to be upsetting to my sons system/stomach and works. It is the lower dose and in powder forms in capsules. I take the capsule, open and blend in sweeter type foods. It disguises good(unlike the liquid forms). You can put in pudding, smoothies, even pedia sure type drinks etc. Jennie<>< > > I have questions for those of you seeing good results with Magnesium. We've been told by my grandson's gi dr. that he can have cleanouts with the bottles of Magnesium Citrate if we think he needs it (she said not to do this more often than once a month or his Magnesium level could go too high). He's been on Fruiteze and Senokot since Dec. 14 with what appears to be good daily bowel movements and not one accident since then. He had had accidents almost daily for 5 years while on the Miralax. We blamed his encopresis, but now it looks like it was the Miralax causing the loss of control and the total inability to ever feel the need to go. He says he feels when he has to go now. The problem is we don't know if he's really cleaned out or not. We're optimistic because he's having no accidents and we were always told that when the accidents were occuring he was backed up. > > My question is this. Rather than give the bottles of Mag. Citrate, should we be giving a daily dose of Mag. Citrate? Is that what the Natural Calm you talk about is? If you give this do you need to worry about the Magnesium level going to high? > > I really appreciate this board and all the input about alternatives to Miralax. You all are the ones who got me thinking that 5 years was too long for him to be on a medicine when he wasn't showing any improvement. >
