Guest guest
Hi, After everything sort of hitting the fan yesterday with my mom and her extended visit, I had come up with a plan for her to rest today before starting home tomorrow, me lying low and out of her way and my neighbor who works for me on Mondays to help with things I have trouble with around the house helping to change out my hospital bed for the Select Comfort sleep number bed I have saved for and finally purchased. I donated my hospital bed to the VFW and they were to pick it up today. They called and said they were delivering a wheelchair today and they would come over Thursday to pick up the bed. We explained that there was help for me to set up my new bed today that would not be available Thursday. The gentleman said that he would help me with the bed Thursday. It took us about 3 hours to unpack and set up the bed which we - mostly Donna - did today after putting the hospital bed out in my carport so it would be protected if we should be blessed with any showers. When the bed had finally been assembled, I was already asleep on a daybed in the living room. I joyfully pounced on my new bed anyway, thrilled to have a queen sized bed vs a hospital bed and one that I can adjust and not have hip pain sleeping on my side. I was ecstatic for about 5 minutes. I started to notice a horrible smell. I could smell a skunk. My CPAP was on so this smell was being forced down my nose and into my lungs. I called my mom to see if she smelled it or I was imagining things. Sure enough she could smell it too. I called my neighbor, Donna, the lady who had spent her day off fixing me a new bed. Sure enough, as she walked home, her 120lb lab mix nailed a skunk and the smell is permeating my trailer. The 2nd slip of the carport has a lot of loose hay that the dogs are sleeping in and my mom's car so it will take a couple of days for the smell to deteriorate. I have a spray that will neutralize the smell when it's actually been sprayed on them, but you can't spray the entire ridge. Mom will be driving home tomorrow with a freshly sprayed X2 car - once by the skunk and once by me. I don't know if the VFW will want the bed or not. I'll use the spray, but I can't keep the dogs from sleeping nearby. I am lying in my new bed laughing at my luck and the odor coming through my CPAP. Is it worth risking a heart attack to leave the CPAP off tonight? It just may be - LOL. This is just how my life goes and you just have to have a sense of humor most days which I can usually do. What are the odds? LOL Wiping my watery eyes ; ) Willow
