Storage and Secretion of Gallbladder Bile into the Intestine

After an overnight fast, about half the hepatic bile enters the gallbladder. The remainder enters the small intestine. Secreted bile acids are absorbed from the terminal ileum and re-secreted into bile. The length of overnight fast determines the amount that is stored. A greater percentage of bile acids will be stored in the gallbladder after an overnight fast. During the ingestion of a meal, vagal parasympathetic discharges stimulate gallbladder contractions. Intraluminal fats or amino acids in the intestine stimulate CCK cells in the duodenum to release CCK, which causes sustained gallbladder contractions and relaxation of the sphincter of Oddi. The slow contractions of the gallbladder discharge two thirds of its stored bile within the first hour of digestion. Bile is not stored in the gallbladder during digestion. Therefore, during ingestion of a meal, bile stored in the gallbladder is discharged into the small intestine. The total estimated bile output is about 500 to 600 ml per day.

I read the article that Andi sent us. Can anybody

interpret what it means to me? I'm soo confused by

it.

So, if we wanted to reduce the bile in our body, if we

took Questran about 1/2 hour before eating, it would

trigger the bile to be dumped, and it would encounter

the Questran and be binded with it and eliminated from

our body? right?

I take Actigall at bedtime per my doctor in the belief

that if Actigall works through the sludge in the

gallbladder that is the optimum time to take it

because it does its magic on it while in the gall bladder??????
