Off ML, now hard grains in stool

About 4 weeks ago we switched our 3 yo son from Miralax to Milk of Magnesia. He

was on ML for about 9 months and ever since the switch his stools have contained

a fair amount of an unknown very hard, small, irregularly shaped, grainy

substance. Almost like small sharp sand or micro sized kitty litter. They are

very hard and often he often complains about hurting when gently wiping them

from his anus. His stools vary from very loose to watery and we keep reducing

the amount of MOM, but his output is still so inconsistent that it's been

difficult to find a " stable " dose. It was the same way with the Miralax, but

now his stools are very light in color and have these hard granules in it that

we can't attribute to his diet. Urinary output is unaffected.

The only adverse issue we thought accountable to the ML was an occasional rash

on the corner of his mouth or cheek shortly after taking the ML. It would

always go away as quickly as it came, but the frequency and duration of the

rashes increased to the point that we wanted to switch. These rash symptoms are

decreasing, but have not abated.

Has anyone ever experience this or something similar? I'm suspecting his body

is purging some type of accumulation vs. something new being produced since

switching to the MOM. Naturally, I want to blame the use of ML, but it this

from an accumulation of ML the docs promised never occurs? Or, is it some other

metabolic process?
