Hi allMy DD is 16 months now and I am looking for ways to get her off Miralax. Okay short background on how it all started. Sometime in november 09, we started giving her wheat foods and after a week, she got severely constipated. She had reacted this way to wheat (multi-grain cereal - just one feeding) earlier before when she was 7 month and it got relieved once we gave her prunes. However, it is my bad that we assumed she would have outgrown it now and started giving her wheat for a week (we should have just give her one feeding and waited to she if she still reacts that way). After 2 weeks of struggle, took her to the pediatrician and he put her on Miralax and little did we know at that time that it might be habit forming! After giving her for abt a month, we started to wean her off and she again got consitpated after 3 or 4 days. She had bananas a couple of times during those days and we thought it might be the culprit and have cut that down too. Our Ped has asked us to continue on the Miralax for 2 more weeks and it's been a week. For the past 3 days, we have been giving her a teaspoon of miralax (earlier we gave her abt half of the 17g once a day) and today, we noticed that her stools have become dry.Though not constipated severely. I am worried now if her body has already got used to BM only with Miralax. She is drinking enough water appropriate for her age. She is now eating foods which she was taking before all this started , strictly away from Wheat and Banana. It is very difficult to get her to drink juices. She is a very picky eater. She drinks abt 20oz of milk and she has been doing that ever since she was weaned of breast feeding. I don't think milk would be aggravating it in her case. She also has a serving of probiotic yogurt 3-4 times a week.I am very concerend about the habit formation with Miralax and it's potential side effetcs and wish to wean her off from it ASAP. I would really appreciate if any of you parents who had similar issues with their kids could guide me in this effort.I am considering the following harmless alternatives:Karo SyrupFlax Seed - I have read that if the person has bleeding then this is not a recommened home remedy. She had mild blood stained BM once during the her second episode of constipation.cBenefiber - I am concerend that the ingredient in it is wheat dextrin. Fiber Choice - is this good enough?Meanwhile, i will try to get her to eat Prunes/ Peaches / Pears / Apricots in any form. She does have Pears (jar food) once or twice in a week.Really appreciate your sugegstions in this regard.ThanksTSR
