Guest guest
My husband, I know, is tired of listening to me so I'll bend your sympathetic ears for a few. It's been a year since my accident and the headaches are still pounding away. Am taking darvon and codeine when I get one, but that just takes the edge off. My doctor told me that I have to wear the c collar whenever doing anything which may strain the neck muscles, and all the time in the car for the rest of my life. He also said that we won't know for 2 to 3 years if there is any other damage concerning the Chiari from the accident. Also found out that I have diabetes. I've gained 45 lbs since the accident because of the meds. especially the amitripyline and not being able to exercise. Add to that stress and a family history of adult onset and I guess there was no way to avoid it. Doc says meds for now, but is pretty sure with diet, exercise (the little I can do) and loosing the weight I should be back to normal. (diabetes free) At least I know why I've been extra tired (high blood sugar) and can't blame all the dizziness on chiari (low blood sugar). What I need is a wide open field to go and scream in...But it would probably hurt my head! I just have to keep telling myself to be thankful for pain. At least it lets you know you're still alive! Thanks for listening. There's only so much you can expect your better half to listen to, and even less that he/she can understand, not having Chiari. I am a little hesitant to say too much to him, because he has done some research on line and is now afraid I'm going to get much worse and kick the bucket. I have no intention of either, but that doesn't stop him or my 24 yr. old son from treating me like I can't do anything. One of these days they're gonna make me mad with their good intentions and I'm gonna kick them!
