I hope they are talking to your brother about an endarterectomy...70%

blockage of a carotid is a HUGE risk for stroke. Cary

I hope things turn out well, Sue. I work on a unit that treats all of the

stroke patients that come into our hospital. Many of them stroke and afterward

find out the carotids are blocked...that's why your post got my attention.

Stroke is preventable, but only if your MD helps you prevent it!

Cary,

The information was sent to his doctor in land. He went in for

another test of his carotid arteries but doesn't have the results yet.

He is following up, but sometimes things move slowly in HMO's. Sue

How scary, Sue. And strange that the two carotid tests would show different

results. I hope the stress test is done with thallium or some sort of

imaging...can't always trust a guy to have chest pain when he oughta! heehee

Cary, my brother had another test on his carotid arteries. He said it

was a doppler ultrasound. It didn't show any major blockage. He is

still planning to try to get referred to a specialist and maybe have a

stress test. I hope that this scare was enough to motivate him to make

some lifestyle changes, such as control his diabetes better, start

exercising, and lose weight if possible. Sue
