Guest guest
For some patients with mild hyponatremia, besides water restriction (hard in this hot summer), OTC electrolyte drink/packet with some sodium would help too. What would you recommend besides Powerage? Anyone has the WHO re-hydration formula or other home recipe?Thank you very much.Helen Visit Your Group Switch to: Text-Only, Daily Digest • Unsubscribe • Terms of Use . Guest guest
I don't know what you mean by mild. but if significant I would actually recommend a work up. You need to know if the patient is hypo, hyper or euvolemic and what their fractional excretion of Na and Cr and BUN is. Without that you do not know if they need more free water or diuresis. If they are hyponatremic from dehydration, giving them more water will lower their Na not increase it. ________________________________________ From: [ ] On Behalf Of Helen Yang [helenwyang@...] Sent: Tuesday, July 19, 2011 2:25 PM To: IMP Group Subject: which OTC electrolyte drink/packet has sodium and the best price? home recipe? Guest guest
Jim,These are patients with negative work up for hyponatremia with stable serum sodium of 132 to 134 or so. Sometimes pts who could not get off SSRI.If they are hyponatremic from mild dehydration (have not seen a severe case for awhile), giving them more electrolyte water (normal tonic sodium level solution to rehydrate) would help with their Na level.
