Hi, greetings from Spain.

I have only worked for Transperfect as an interpreter and in all cases

it was a very positive experience. But this subject and the reactions

expressed after the initial lead, brings me onto posing a different but

related question for you all. Even if I have been able to maintain my

translation rates, which are lower than what I would wish them to be, I

see that more and more customers tend to try and save costs the

following way:

-you are given projects through applications such as Across which force

you to go through many QA processes that were formerly either referred

onto a reviewer or done in a different, swifter way (i.e., it is easier

to review format " on the fly " over a Word document than having to do it

after the customer has processed your translation done through Across

and send it back to you once compiled)

-they send you bits and bobs, never bigger than a 100 words and they ask

you to do them at no cost as a favour, or maybe at your rate but without

accepting a minimum rate (I had an argument over this with a customer

last week)

-you finish a translation job and you are only asked to review format a

couple of weeks later. In my case, I may accept reviewing format once

the customer has worked in the compiling of the document on their side,

but If more an a couple of days have passed, I would rather consider it

as a different job, under a different PO

These to say the least.... but I started thinking of all this as a kind

of generalized move in the industry... What do you think? Thanks

Porlan, Spain
