Guest guest
It's ok, Jackie. It is totally forgivable for you to make a comment which isn't exactly a part of our group mission in the context you made it. I know that anyone whom might have taken offense will just let it go, since to not do so would actually be not very cool. I think I get what you are saying though. Your doctor isn't exactly putting Fred at the top of his priority list. Not worth putting our focus on something we cannot change. As far as what we can focus on---- The blood work is important sign. You can look up Fred's MELD score to keep track of predicted 30 day mortality- http://www.mayoclinic.org/meld/mayomodel7.html Constipation---- Constipation is caused by pain medicine when it makes the intestines squeeze all the water out. It would be a problem for many of us, except that lactulose is keeping us with the opposite problem. Lactulose is a natural osmotic laxative, and is non addictive un-like other over the counter laxative. Fruit has a natural laxative effect, as well as high fibre foods, and as far as I can tell almost work as well for my liver disease as lactulose. In India, they believe that any thing which can speed up digestion and move toxins out quickly will help much, and there are a lot of hepatologists who agree with that thinking. Please let us know what the MELD score is. a score over <10 is when people are typically evaluated for a liver transplant. 6 is the lowest score, and 40 is the highest, a 40 meaning that predicted 30 day mortality is high. Guest guest
I know what you are saying, . I have had TERRIBLE gas pains from lactulose in the past. The stuff stopped working, so they upped the amount, all the way up to 45 Ml, three times a day. I now take only 30 to 45 ml TWICE a day as this is the right amount. It also helps to mention that high fibre cereal will turn laculose in to TURBO lactulose!! I am so sorry you had such a terrible time. I know you have had a terrible time with this disease. love, Bobby  ________________________________ To: livercirrhosissupport Sent: Saturday, September 10, 2011 2:42 PM Subject: Re: Bob Aragon  hello i just want everyone to know, please please be careful of what you are taking and why all medicines dont work the same for everyone, simply said some works and some kills, so please be care and get a real understanding dont just take meds because your doctor prescribe them you need to find out the affects of what you are taking. Guest guest
I live up here in Canada, where things are done just a little differently. Like Lactaloseis an over the counter med. I have suffered with irritable bowel for many years. I tried the Lactalose and it didn't work for me either. Also, my very busy GP might accidentally overlook which meds I'm on (hasn't happened yet) and prescribe another that conflicts. In that case, my pharmacist will catch it. Any of the pharmacists that work there also come over to show me (the customer) the pills in any of the new bottles. Many many years ago, I was on Valium. The 5mgs wasn't doing it for me, so I started to take 2. Then, the pharmacy made a mistake and I didn't know about the colours back then. Was at work when I popped 2 10 mgs of Valium. Fifteen minutes later, I was dead asleep in the washroom. Also, I absolutely do not believe in trading pills whatsoever.    Our computer system that the pharmacists are hooked into, would even make it less likely that anyone could get away with taking the same script to several pharmacies. Actually, I wondered if our local hospital was hooked into even bigger hospitals. Well, when the tech that called me from the Vancouver Diagnostic office, to say that she didn't have any of my blood work to go with the requisition for a CT Scan. That told me that the hospitals don't communicate together in computerize. So, my Drs here and the hospital have clearance to look up my medical history when I have to use the local hospital. But, the records that Vancouver has is for the Vancouver procedures and whatever my Drs here sent them. Gloria  hello i just want everyone to know, please please be careful of what you are taking and why all medicines dont work the same for everyone, simply said some works and some kills, so please be care and get a real understanding dont just take meds because your doctor prescribe them you need to find out the affects of what you are taking. Guest guest
That was funny, Bobby Fortunately, if I eat my bran in the morning in some way, it does help me. I'd like to buy a big tray of bran muffins (I don't bake) to keep in the freezer for mid morning. ________________________________  I know what you are saying, .
