Its not just the fat lecture! It is also having your serious symptoms ignored or dismissed. I ended up in the hospital neeeding intravenous antibiotics, because the doctor had refused me antibiotics a week earlier for an infection.It is having your arm from the shoulder down to your wrist black and blue from having a blood pressure cuff too tight, and being ignored when you tell them it is too tight and you are already in tremendous pain from a kidney infection.It is being pushed to take meridia by an endo, when you go there with abnormal blood results, plus other symptoms, and who when you say calmly no, you get labeled as non-compliant,etc.It is being called a liar, when you say you eat healthily(and you do). And they do not believe you have normal(or even low blood pressure)when you do, or You are not Diabetic, and ignoring very real, very noticeable symptoms of other health issues.It is being denied treatment for a kidney infection(with raging fever,etc) until you get your blood pressure taken(and sure- in great pain, your bp is going to be abnormal, especially with this added grief)It is being treated like you are an idiot, even if you are college educated(and have a mother who is a MD).It is worrying about how to get up on the tables in the examining room,or finding a place to sit in the waiting room . It is being ignored when you tell(5 times) in the same visit that you have six different kinds of rashes, that are painful,etc,and the onocologist comes back with a flip answer about sweating. That may be one kind, but not all of them, and besides- I have not hardly sweated for a few years. Its being misdosed with meds, cuz they take into account your weight and not yoursensitivity to medicines. I am dglad you have not had those bad docs, but so many have- and it is not just fat people either. My group co-owner almost died from this kind of maltreatment. She was a truckdriver and bodybuilder, all of a sudden she started losing weight so fast, and she had to eat 20000 calories a day to stay alive. She went to a doc, who said that she was fat(she had a lot of muscle) and refused to treat her. She had hyperthyroid . She had later found someone, who did RAI and later she lost all her thyroid function and had to take thyroid hormones-- SHE WAS EATING 20 Thousand calories a day to stay alive and still was losing!. Yes I am impassioned about this Maybe that is why I am an ATP Boardmember and thyroid patient advocate, and a fat activist! Truly Feisty
