Guest guest
Hi . I understand what you are going through. I have a hiatal hernia which causes GERD and I am on Nexium for that. I was diagnosed with Fibro in December of 03 and I am slowly working on getting better with my dr's help. I found out yesterday from my gastro dr that i have IBS now as well so I am trying hard to find out what I have to do for that as well. It seems like every day is some new experience. I'm on a pain medication for my fibro but I don't take it every day. I look forward to talking to all of you and learning new things and supporting and getting support from everyone. thank you. kelly
Guest guest
Be careful. I was diagnosed with espphagael spasms and it was prinzmetal disease, and actually my heart. The spasms start in the jaw often. I had reflux also and the same stressors are heat, cold and stress. I suffered a heart attack because of the mis diagnosis. It is terribly hard for the doctors to tell the difference in the esphagael spasms and the heart spasms. I believed the diagnosis and suffered for 5 years with the spasms until one fateful nite it went into a full fledged heart attack. I understand the esophageas stuff. But be very careful. If the pain goes down the arm or gets intolerable get to a hospital. I didn't ... but did survive.... when there wasa actual heart damage they revised the diagnosis and many people are misdiagnosed with the esoph spasms. I had the reflux etc. also. Do you carry nitro?????????????? You NEED to. My spasms are also increased by the back pain......causing adrenylin to form and etc etc. dash Re: Back ache/chest pain Hi , My spasms start mid sternum and while they may feel like they radiate from my heart at times if seems to go straight thru my chest and stab into my spine.I'll have tightening of the throat muscles just under the jaw and increased saliva. My Dr. calls them esophageal spasms due to a variety of reasons from acid relux that has actualy scared the esophagus.and my be triggerd by emotions or hot/cold irritation such as a hot meal with a big healthy swig of cold milk..could be heriditary as my Dad had it. Some times stretching the esophagus will take care of the problem but meds would be a must so the same situation doesn't occur. Meds could include tagamet. protonics or even the prevelcid...sp. And yes Dash if the esophagus strangulates [bulges inward] then death could occer by strangulation or aspiration of stomach contents into the lung. My is slight right now only 2-3 a week where as my Dad had that many in one day every day..until he had surgery to stretch out the esophagus. Guest guest
I have esophageal spasms also. They say mine is from GERD which I've had for years and have had a Nissen Fundoplication for it. The surgery involves bringing the top part of the stomach up and wrapping it around the esophagus to help stop the reflux. It has worked somewhat. I still take 2 Nexium (1a.m. 1 p.m) and then also take Imdur for the spasms. I've been hospitalized so many times with " chest " pain it isn't funny. Even been transferred to another hospital 70 miles away by my heart doctor. The Imdur does control the spasms. Only get them when the reflux is really bad or I'm stressed out. Guest guest
Hi, I, too, had the Nissen Fundoplication surgery about 4 years ago, It was very effective for about 2-21/2 years but not now. Slowly I seem to be reverting though so far without regeratation ( which is a great blessing). My GP said sometimes it begins to leak around where they wrapped the stomach around the esophagus. I also have some chest pain. Would I have it again, you betcha! Just my too cents. Joan Re: Back ache/chest pain > >
