Instead of elimintating coffee, why don't you just cut back your

consumption to a safe level. 450 mg caffeine is considered a safe

amount for healthy adults. That is 2-4 cups depending on how strong

the brew is and what other forms of caffeine you consume. Pregnant

women can consume 300 mg per day. A Starbuck's Grande would put you

over the limit at 550 mg. Other foods are at

http://www.cspinet.org/nah/caffeine/caffeine_corner.htm

Caffeine can increase your blood pressure but there is no good

evidence that consuming less than 450 mg will do so.

FYI, you would have to drink between 50 to 200 cups of coffee per day

to kill yourself.

The BFL website says " If you have an occasional diet soda, coffee or

tea, you'll need to drink an additional glass (of water) to

compensate for the diuretic effect of these beverages. "

I gave up alcohol and that was true " self-control " but to

contemplate not drinking coffee is tough. And I know I should not

look at it as an all or nothing as I did with alcohol, but if I did

cut back to one or two cups in the morning I would have to have some

alternative...I have GOT to be drinking something...it is part of my

personality. My main concern is that it is dehydrating me. Another

is that I have high bloodpressure and I am trying to stay off meds.

It is only mildly high.

Thing is, I will have to go to the bathroom more and I can't leave

the students.
