After a long series of consecutive, busy shifts as trainer, I'm trying to catch up on my e-mail tonight, so... This post caused a chuckle and more questions/comments. Anyone else have folks show up at the station needing some 'assistance' in removing metal restraints of some sort? We tend to get several a year, usually between Halloween and New Years Day. The items are usually of inferior quality and have to be removed with bolt cutters. Frequently the metal of the cuffs purchased from 'adult toy' catalogs is soft enough to be cut with an ordinary 'ring cutter' from the aid bag, providing superior protection to the citizen's hide. Once the appropriate public service has been rendered, we give the citizens involved one of the Galls catalogs that are always laying around and recommend that they consider better quality the next time they purchase adult toys. Oh, and do you frequently get complaints about 'breach of contract,' usually a verbal contract between one of the 'escort services' and one (or more) of the citizens we are sworn to protect? " I gave her three hundred dollars and I expect to get what I paid for! " And what might that be, sir? I'm still surprised at the number of times that the female in a relationship is the caller with her spouse or significant other wanting to 'forget it' and cut his losses while the woman who was looking to 'add a little spice' to things wants 'justice' (as in getting what she or they paid for...). We even have regulars who complain about 'fraud' and 'false advertising' by the 'services' advertised in the telephone directory. I have to sympathize with the lady whose leather goods were stolen. High quality leather is costly and may be hard to find in your area. No such problem here in 'horse country.' Try 'The Stable Door' in downtown 'Olde Towne' Warrenton for authentic riding crops and buggy whips as well as collars for your hounds and Jack terriers, leads, harnesses, halters, hobbles, bits, and even 'stock leather' to replace the reins for your buggy rig. Add to that a nice stock of jodhpurs and Wellingtons which are also popular among the same folks. They know that most of those items will never be used on a horse or dog but they rather enjoy the cash flow since cash is the preferred method of payment when the purchaser wants annonymity. 'Bell's Saddlery' has been burglarized... but he puts his signature on everything he does and 'horse people' know his stuff... so the theives were caught when they tried to sell the items. He's right here in Catlett and does amazing custom leatherwork, usually the heavy stuff like saddles and tack. If you want light leather, 'Bedo's Leather Works' in Falls Church is your ticket to the best of custom leather work at a reasonable price. The 'kink' crowd is a reality here in northern Virginia. In general, they don't do drugs, drive drunk, or do anything else that might attract police attention... except for the couple who decided they might like a little adventure so husband shackles his nude wife to a light pole, planning to circle the block and pick her up. Well, citizen sees nude woman chained to pole, dials 9-1-1, police arrive quickly, arrest husband for DUI, release nude wife (without summons for indecent exposure)... Sorry, can't find a link to the story in the archives of the Manassas Journal Messanger. Oh, and then there's Bobbit. And... Well, maybe police in northern Virginia do get involved at times.
