Guest guest
Did they really tell you to " cut out " ALL protien? This would be very very drastic. Usuallly if someone has encephalopathy severe enough to completely eliminate all protien, it also is severe enough to include lactulose enemas, and the person is comatose or semi comatose. My advice would be to ask the hepatology nurse for clarification, and get some kind of idea as to how much protien you can actually have. An example of a really good way to beat the doldrums about not having anything good to eat is to think about reclining on a chair on a beach on ... Guam! Kelaguin is a Guamanian cold salad with a dash of either chicken or fish or wild venison (the total amount of protien is set by you)and tossed with chopped onions, fresh shredded coconut, and scalions, with a nice squeeze of lemon juice all around, served on a bowl of steamed short grain rice. a table spoon of " finidine " is the key garnish for a fantastic tropical Pacific lunch that wont aggravate the liver encephalopathy. Finidine is the juice of 9 lemons, squeezed in to a bowl over one large very finely chopped onion, add one tablespoon of Kikkoman soy sauce, the low sodium version in the GREEN bottle. This will be about 600-800 mg of sodium in the whole batch, but you dont eat the whole batch, you just serve a table spoon or so over your bowl of fish or chicken kelaguin. Check with your hepatology nurse for verification on salt and protien restrictions. Hafa-Adai! Guest guest
I can have some protein but it is a drastic change in diet for me. I did not mean to be so serious, but I have been reading a lot about the problems I could incur if I stray too far from what they tell me.  may ask the Dr. to refer me to a nutritionist. I am new to this disease and determined to hang around and watch my grandkids grow a lot more before I leave them. Subject: Re: food question--Kelaguin and Finideni over " Calrose " rice is the answer To: livercirrhosissupport Date: Sunday, April 17, 2011, 9:16 AM  Did they really tell you to " cut out " ALL protien?
