Guest guest
I work in a daycare setting and what I have found works wonderful is to play a very upbeat cd while they are eating. The music is fun for them, and completely masks their sounds or at least serves as a counter-beat to help keep my nerves soothed. I highly recommend making sure that music is playing while children are eating. no one will ever know the real reason you're playing the cd. They'll just think you're nice and your sanity remains intact. Tammy To: Soundsensitivity Sent: Sat, May 15, 2010 12:05:05 AMSubject: Re: NON-triggers Typing is not a trigger for me. Last night I noticed my sister clicking the computer mouse because I was in the same room concentrating on a book. I kind of told myself "Okay, you don't need another trigger. Just relax." And I did, so I think it's okay. I hope it doesn't turn into one!I agree with all the people saying they can easily put up with little kids and babies. I've been a nanny for years, and until the age of about 5, they could eat like absolute pigs and I'd even find it cute. But after 5, they could just make certain small sounds (a tiniest slurp whenever they sipped a drink, especially if repeated) and I'd have to leave the room and start shaking with anger. In the group description it says that many 4S sufferers actively seek out loud, constant sounds to drown out triggers. I'm definitely in this camp. I love loud music at festivals and bars, I always have to have the TV or radio on if I'm home alone, or eating with someone. If I'm eating out with a friend I try to get them to a food court or busy restaurant. Once I was staying in a hostel with a dorm of 10 or so in my room. The burglar alarm at the office building next door had been set off, but it was a Friday night, so there was no one there to turn it off. We slept through that for two nights - or at least I did. Most people complained about how hard it was to sleep. Some of them moved to other hostels because they couldn't sleep a bit. It wasn't a 'nice' sound, but I had better sleeps those nights than the nights where it was dead quiet and I could pick out random little sounds.>> I'm glad you like typing too. The repitition is what drives me absolutely insane, especially for my visual triggers. A visual repetition is enough to have me trying climb the walls and screwing my eyes shut. It can even be something as stupid as someone applying lotion and they rub and rub and rub and rub....aaaarrrrgggh hh! > But, in some strange way, I find repetition in a just a few selective things to be very soothing to me. I could listen to someone typing all day long. I know we have people on this list who have in the past expressed hatred of typing but I find it one of the most soothing sounds in the world to me. > > Tammy> >  >
