Guest guest
Annie, when toxins which are not properly filtered by our sick livers affect the neurological system, it can cause hepatic encephalopathy, a mental status change similar to Alzheimer disease. The effect is usually temporary, and resolves with lactulose/antibiotic treatment or liver transplant. A fast running digestive system can help as well, because the toxins are thought to be from the large intestine crossing through the blood/brain barrier. One of the very first signs of hepatic encephalopathy is " asterixis " pronounced ASS- TER- IX- ISS. This is a flapping movement in the hands. It would look like you were pushing forward repeatedly away from your body when your outstretched hands are pointed up at the ceiling. Here is a video on the subject.
