Guest guest
Sorry, I forgot to put a subject line!!! (unknown) Hello, all. I don't post much but I lurk here all the time and would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for such wonderful information!!! I wanted to ask, what is used to preserv herbal extracts or infusions? I would like to make a hair rinse to keep in stock - water infused w/rosemary herbs and maybe a few others. Also, what's the difference between Herbal Extract vs. infusion? TIA!! Rosi G. Scents of Nature

If you do your infusion in ethanol or propylene glycol, you probably won't need a preservative. If you are doing a simple extraction in water, I think you'll have some preservation challenges. How do you plan om making this infusion? > I > would like to make a hair rinse to keep in stock - water infused w/rosemary > herbs and maybe a few others. Is this for personal use or for commercial purposes? > Also, what's the difference between Herbal Extract vs. infusion? People make botanical infusions as a way of extracting undefined stuff from the botanical. Botanical infusions are used to make botanical extracts. I looked on the Herbarie site and didn't see them. <<<If you are doing a simple extraction in water, I think you'll have some preservation challenges. How do you plan om making this infusion?>>> I was planning on infusing herbs either in oil or water. Maybe putting herbs in the crockpot w/either the water or oil (not both) and heating for an hour. Then let it sit for a day and strain....? <<<Is this for personal use or for commercial purposes?>>> For now, it would be personal use, and maybe family and friends. But if I could do it in a method that it would keep, then I would use it in some hair creams and shampoos. Once again, thank you for all your help, Maurice!! Always, Rosi G.
