Guest guest
This is how I found out I have cirrhosis. I had been diagnosed with ITP which is low platelets and had had two significant bleeds, one nosebleed and one vomiting blood. A week later I was driving to town and felt discomfort all across my stomach and thought I may be going to have another vomiting session. I did not vomit but I got very weak and clammy. I got myself home and my son had to help me out of my car. My knees were like jello and my feet so heavy I could not lift them to get up the steps, then my upper stomach swelled up and was very rigid. When the symptoms would not go away in 3 mos. my hemotoligist suggested that I see my family doctor to get a CT scan on my liver and spleen..That was seven months ago and I still get winded after walking 30 ft. and have a hard time lifting my legs. Guest guest
Matbe your platelets are really low, that will make you very tired. Ihey just ran bloodwork to find the cause of my cirrhosis, but my mother has it also. Mom is 79 and I am 59, I don't know what stages we are at but the only difference in our symptoms is that she has episodes of high ammonia levels now and then. I have been on a lot of diuretics to get rid of the fluid, I have lost 14 lbs. of the 30 I gained from the episode. I hate needles so hopefully I won't have to have the fluid drained. Subject: RE: another question To: " liver cirrhosis support " <livercirrhosissupport > Date: Thursday, April 14, 2011, 4:16 PM  No i am not a diabetic...so I don't know whats wrong ..the weakness lasts for hours last night was a restless night I kept waking up just feeling miserable so i got up at 5:30 Annie > To: livercirrhosissupport > From: lmlangdon@... > Date: Thu, 14 Apr 2011 07:46:29 -0700 > Subject: Re: another question > > Annie > > I do that when my blood sugar is low. Guest guest
Yes, Annie. I do. Exactly as you describe. But my doctor says it is defiantly not diabetes in my case, because I was convinced that it had to be, so after three years of it, it remains a mystery. When it happens, I am almost totally incapacitated. Guest guest
Annie & Bobby, I am not real versed in this condition(it seems like I learn more each day) but I called them episodes and my gastro asked what I was talking about..I elaborated. I have swelling(as much as 14 pound weight gain), fatigue, irritability, inability to focus, etc.. He said that is decompensation. I asked him to repeat(he english is not the best). I came home, got online googled it and went wow.. this is what I have going on. Hope this helps. Guest guest
It could be de-compensating. I am always checking my eyes in the mirror to see if I have " turned the corner " . My actual condition is one of those gray areas of liver disease. De compensating is supposed to include hepatic encephalopathy, but I have been being treated for encephalopathy for 4 years now, and am still considered compensated on paper. I also have a rare and nasty complication called " hepatopulmonary syndrome " , but the only treatment for it is a transplant, and it is not severe enough to get a transplant MELD score exception. HPS causes your arteries to be low in oxygenation. They test you arteries for oxygen and put you on 100% oxygen for 20 minutes and retest. The reading is supposed to be over 500, but mine was only 346. This means there is a shunt from liver disease in my lungs. This is also why they do an echo cardiogram , especially with a saline bubble study to see if the shunt is visible. I have quite a lot of shortness of breath, and have to sleep with 2 liters off oxygen at night., and use sometimes in the day during those " episodes " . If I complained I could get a transplant evaluation but then they might force me off of my pain meds. They did that to a friend on here and we never heard from her again. For me , death is not my enemy, suffering is. Technically " de-compensating " is supposed to be any major complication in the presence of end stage liver disease, aka cirrhosis. Guest guest
Believe me, Annie, I am also glad that I am not just being hyper sensitive or a big baby, because it is really a bad feeling. I sometimes wonder if it is related to pain meds, but usually if you experience withdrawal symptoms, it is at the END of a cycle and not in the middle or beginning, and these episodes come at all times. If I have one in a car, the defrost has to be turned on because I will promptly steam up the windshield! Guest guest
I was the most anti drug person on the face of planet earth, and then my wife was diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos, and also Chiari malformation, which happened as a result of the Ehlers Danlose. Her spine is pushing in to the hole in her head, called the foramen magnum, and goosing her brain stem. She requires pain meds just to live, has had one single headache since November 21,2003 and had to have brain surgery to make some room for her brain stem. I went to see her pain doctor because of my ongoing liver ache with worsened by 100% after they took my gallbladder out. I know this pain you have and I am really sorry Nothing hurts like a liver dose, and anyonem doctor, nurse, or other wise who says livers dont hurt doesnt know what they are talking about, period.
