Guest guest
We live in a throw away society. That includes computers. Computer shelf lives are 2-4 years. Maybe. Obsolence is what causes this. You can get longer out of some computers, like workstations, hubs, switches, modems, but most of this stuff is limited to 5 yrs before the technology curve necessitates replacement. 4 years is a long time for a primary computer, where the user is using word, excel, quickbooks, billing, internet, e-mail, voice recognition, networking, pictures, and all kinds of data storage. all the stuff that doctors use primary computers for. Mac's are fine, but it's not likely they will last any longer with respect to obsolence. they are great designer machines, however. there should be no problem with functionality. you can always run a program like fusion to do windows exclusive work. windows state of the art is 8G ram, SS HD, 64 bit Win 7. considering that redundancy is the key to business survival, it's not bad having more than one computer. that's where networks help. new laptops--crossed posted to the website I think I need to buy a new laptop Not sure Screen started to flash and when I re started it did the check disc thing...Works ok now Dell latitude 1600 model thing Ithink, I think I paid too much for, not quite 4 yrs old Got a new hard drive in Oct 2010 . So what's the big deal about buying a laptop? just pick some ram and a screen size and buy it right? I have 1.99 giga somethign sof RAm now isn;t that fine? I used to be afraid now Iam apatheticwhy don;t these thigns last??I treat it like gold. Does a MAC last longer? If i got a mac will there be trouble t o make it work on the network, the peer to peer thing I have with one desktop -known as "SERVOR" that has windows 7?thanks MD ph fax =======Email scanned by PC Tools - No viruses or spyware found.(Email Guard: 7.0.0.26, Virus/Spyware Database: 6.17740)http://www.pctools.com======= =======Email scanned by PC Tools - No viruses or spyware found.(Email Guard: 7.0.0.26, Virus/Spyware Database: 6.17740)http://www.pctools.com=======
Guest guest
Look at http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=32 & name=Laptops-NotebooksOne suggestion would be to get 2 of the least expensive laptop that meets your needs, use a good backup system, perhaps Symantec Ghost ( http://www.google.com/search?q=symantec+ghost & ie=utf-8 & oe=utf-8 & aq=t & rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official & client=firefox-a#q=symantec+ghost & hl=en & client=firefox-a & hs=9XR & rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official & prmd=ivns & source=univ & tbm=shop & tbo=u & sa=X & ei=Qnr-Te6ULanz0gH-85nJAw & ved=0CHMQrQQ & bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw. & fp=d934deac8855874e & biw=1277 & bih=904 ) so if one fails the other can pick up where you left. Guest guest
Sometimes the hardware is working just fine, but the operating system needs to be reinstalled. If you hardware is working and you are starting to get errors, this is probably a good fix. (Plus I can send you an operating disk and talk you through the re-instillation). The problem is of course is that while we do this/if we run into any problems this is the only computer that you have?? Certainly, if you have the same problems after reinstalling the operating system, then you know definitely that the hardware is defective. Additionally, Dell sometimes has a partition of the hard drive thet makes it easy to reinstall the operating system along with the original hardware drivers. Guest guest
The screen flashing was the first indication that my screen was dying which it did 4 hours later. Getting things transferred to new laptop was a nightmare. Now Amazing Charts tells me I need a terabyte of harddrive cuz the whole thing froze last night! Good luck!
