Oh my [censored] gods YES. One of the memories that tortures me the most is my second grade teacher rocking back and forth as she conducted spelling tests, giving a little "Shh" after every sentence she delivered. I HATED IT. I learned how to scream low in my throat without opening my mouth in reaction. She finally got exasperated many months later and said "All right, who's screaming?" I got ratted out and had to stop. Or maybe I continued? I can't remember. I wish I had threatened violence, or run out of class, or screamed at her to stop, or SOMETHING, but my parents basically told me when I was little I was not allowed to rebel against adults unless they were trying to kidnap or molest me. Or maybe that's just what I felt 'cause my parents were stern. It was SO frustrating, especially since I would rant and rave and scream about how I hated it so often, and they always said "Well [Multi], you're just gonna have to get over it!" And so I would suffer and suffer. I even hated it when teachers do that stupid thing in spelling tests when they say the word, use it in a sentence, then say it again. It was like "Don't you think we heard you the first time, you stupid [censored]?!"Spelling tests and math tests were the best ways to ruin a school day when I was little. I picked up the habit of screaming in my throat again.I visualize bad things against my second grade teacher a lot. Just thinking about the situation makes me aggravated all over again. My parents were NO help when I was little with teachers I hated, or in general 'cause they were told my little "quirks" weren't autism (they friggin' were!) and they still don't modulate their sibilant voices all these years later. I guess they're tired of dealing with it. Well hey, guess what, Mom and Dad! I'M EVEN MORE SO!(long sigh) Sorry for the rant.= M-F.> To: Soundsensitivity > > Lately I've been sent over the edge by "shushing" or people making the "Shhhhhhh" sound. (Kind of ironic because I used to be a librarian LOL).> > I've noticed especially that parents tend to "shush" their children when the kids are acting up or being loud, etc. My husband does this with our own kids and it makes my skin crawl in aggravation! Not only does the sound send me over the edge as a 4S sufferer but the annoying and condescending way the parents "shush" and often that stern yet patronizing look they get on their faces and the finger held over the mouth, hand in the air motion gives me a "visual trigger" too.> > What do you all think? Do you get this too?
