In car radios: on old VHF system (being phased out)- all cars have in-car

radios and officers have handhelds

on spiffy new 800 trunked system - no car radios (except chief and

detective's car) - no MDTs

The City we are in (Boca Raton) uses the spiffy 800mHz trunked radios and

MDTs ( no car radios ) the officers I have spoken to are not to comfortable

with that setup.

Dead Spots-- our VHF system is terrible on the parking lot side of our

campus apartments for the handhelds, mobiles work just fine.

one might think that since it is a relatively small campus, that we

wouldn't have this problem. Luckily when we go to 800, we are using the

cities repeater which is probably another 100 ft in the air and more

powerful. An added plus is that it is only 6 blocks away from campus.
