Guest guest
Hi: Jackie here. My husband has his liver transplant in May. Prior to that he filled up with fluid in his belly often and they put him on a schedule where they would drain off the fluid (paracentesis) every 2 weeks. Has your dad been evaluated for transplant? Jackie Subject: hello all.......... Guest guest
If I were you I would look into some transplant centers in your area. Maybe you don't even need a referral. I would let a transplant center make that determination as to whether or not he is at that point. It sometimes takes awhile to get listed so the earlier you start the process the better. Keep us posted how you are doing. Jackie Subject: Re: hello all.......... Guest guest
Thanks, I just started looking yesterday for transplant centers, and procedures. In Canada at least Ontario its different, you don't go anywhere without a referal, or you know or are someone really important . Its sad but its out of my control. Thanks for everything. Guest guest
Hi Penny: I too live in Ontario and was told that although I have advanced liver disease with major complications the exact same thing. We are not there yet and no we cannot just go and ask to meet with a transplant team here we would not even get through the front door without a referral. so it is totally up to our doctors to decide when and if we get a referral to even meet with a transplant team. I too thought the sooner the better but apparently not. I hope all goes well with your Dad Penny.
