Guest guest
, Welcome to the wonderful world of Educate the Educators. (sorry to all of the wonderful teachers that realize these kids are people too) I have learned not to assume anything as well. If you listen to our school staff, they think they are wonderful communicators. They talk among themselves and forget to even tell me that they set a date for her communication evaluation. has a notebook that goes back and forth everyday and each school is to write down the good and the bad of the day. I in turn let them know how the night went. I received a call yesterday from the SLP asking me if I have any additional questions for her. I asked her what questions I had already asked and what she already had so that I could determine if I had any additional questions. She said, " Weren't you told that I was evaluating yesterday " I replied no, I guess that communication must not have gotten to me. She filled me in that was very subtle with her gestures. She picked up on them right away and the people working with her tended to miss several of them. Gosh, after 3 years, you would think that they would put forth an effort when an evaluation is going on and after 5 years they could at least put something in her notebook about the evaluation. Well, I better not get on my high horse about our school around here. Everyone knows that I can go on and on. I found this website one night and found this to be cute. It is the Foxworthy test to..... " ...Your child might have an IEP. " Hope that there aren't too many that apply. Guest guest
, I continue to be amazed reading the list of the things " professionals " say and do regarding our kids. I can still recall 's first physical therapist complaining when he was just 1 year old that he was trying to manipulate her when he cried while she worked with him. I guess it's good that the teacher expects a lot out of Maddie, but at the same time, the teacher should understand she has a disability. Then they always want us as parents to somehow fix it for them. I get this really helpless feeling with any of my kids when the school calls or writes a note complaining about something they do or don't do. What am I supposed to do about it? Ugh!
