My 28 year old son is also very sensitive to the washer and dryer. I actually looked up, on the Consumer Reports website, the decibel levels for various washers and dryers so I could buy the quietest ones available at that time that also fit in the limited space I have and into my budget, and at the time I needed to get new ones anyway. The washer and dryer are just outside his bedroom which doesn't help, but the quieter washer and dryer did help a little . . . but unfortunately, not enough. There are much quieter ones available now, but that's a lot of money if your current ones are still working. I have a gas dryer, so I would have to have a gas line run out to my (detached) garage if I moved everything out there, but that might be cheaper than buying a new, quieter washer and dryer! Still, if you can (and want to) afford it, that's another option. (If I had money to spluge, I would still by one of the new "super-quiet" washers and dryers that are available now, even if my current ones were working, to make life easier on my son, but that's not in the cards for us).

Can u move it to the garage? I often do a load of wash as I leave for work then dry the moment when I get home and am busy doing stuff or in the shower. I just can't sleep when it so that's why I do it that way.

Hello all,My husband is very sensitive to household noises -- washer and dryer in particular. I respect his sensitivity and I try to do what I can to accomodate. I try to do the family's laundry when my husband is not at home, but unfortunately there just isn't enough such time when I am at home and he isn't. I also bought noise cancelling headphones, which he is very reluctant to wear. I have even considered taking the family's laundry to a laundromat, but my husband opposes the idea -- he does not want to cause inconvenience to me and our young children. Could anyone offer any practical ideas? Dow do I sound-proof a laundry room?Thanks for listening.
