Guest guest
Hi, my dad was diagnosed with colon cancer that had spread to his liver about 2 years ago. He underwent what was supposed to be a liver resection of 50% of his liver back in august. When the procedure was started the surgeon said he had signs of fatty liver and could not do the procedure quite as planned. My dad had no signs of liver problems until about 6 weeks after the procedure. My dad had one day of chemo, and developed severe ascites the following day. It was found he had a blood clot in the portal vein of his liver. He has had to have a shunt/drain put into his stomach so he can drain the fluid at home. He also recently had to be rushed to the emergency room, when he started vomiting blood. He had to have 7 bands put into his eshophagus due to varices. HIs appetite is suffering greatly, he has lost a considerable amount of weight. A few weeks ago he tried megace for his appetite, it actually seemed to be working, but we have read that it has been shown to cause blood clots, which he doesn't need. He tried marinol, and had some sort of reaction to it. He had to be rushed to the emergency room that night as well. Any help with appetite ideas, or advice on the ascites would be greatly appreciated.
