Guest guest
Hi, Donny, my name is Bobby. There is one stage of true cirrhosis, and that is 4. Cirrhosis is stage 4 liver disease, which is the end stage. There are no more stages after this one. Stage 3 liver disease is PARTIAL fibrosis, reversable, and not quite end stage. Stage 4 is ESLD. Stage 3 is NOT cirrhosis, stage 4 IS CIRRHOSIS. There are two kinds of cirrhosis- COMPENSATED and DE-COMPENSATED. COMPENSATED means no or few complications have happened. This benchmark is flexible. You could experience ONE bleed or ONE episode of encephalopathy, and then if you improve because of a change as in stopping drinking, or losing weight, then they might call it COMPENSATED. DE-COMPENSATED means that complications have occurred and stayed and are severe and life threatening. This includes liver failure, ascites, encephalopathy, edema, variceal bleeding, hepatopulmonary or hepato renal syndromes. When a person has DECOMPENSATED cirrhosis, they need a LIVER TRANSPLANT. When I first heard that I had stage 4 liver cirrhosis, I thought it was like the grades of cancer, but it is not. Hep C is a different matter and I would have to look up those stages Bobby. ________________________________ To: livercirrhosissupport Sent: Tue, January 25, 2011 4:23:18 PM Subject: Why Me Hey My name is Donny I will be 46 next week.....i was diagnose with a fatty liver known as NASH non-alcoholic-steatosis and I have had a biopsy last month...now they say I have cirrosis ...i do not have any systoms other than I have mild pain in my right side...i dont know what stage it in . Guest guest
Hi Bobby: Thought I would tell you about this: The day after my husband's transplant the surgeon came in to see him. This surgeon was a cute little Japanese man who speaks very fast and always asks if we have any questions. I happened to see a clipboard in the room with a picture on it of the various stages of liver disease. I showed it to him and asked " which one of these did 's liver look like? " He pointed to the worst looking one (it said under the picture, necrotic cirrhosis) and said " this one. this one here. very bad liver " ! Wow!
