Guest guest
Hi Biddy I'm just now reading the mail from the past week. I recall you mentioned that your amonia level was high, how high was it? My husband, , was diagnosed in 97 but has had PSC since at least 91, was recently called by the PCP and his amonia is 80. They prescribed the Lactulose 2x a day, he started yesterday. It's my understanding that it will give you diarrhea, cramping and bloating as it is also used in the treatment of constipation. Have you had the diarrhea, especially since you take it 4x day? Did the Dr. tell you how long you will have to be on it? Well I guess our PCP has decided to send to another Liver Dr. since our last one moved and the transplant center Dr.s want so much money up front, don't know who yet but the choices are limited since he is on Medicaid. As for the tingling, I don't know, I get it in my arms, I figure it's lack of good blood flow but I don't know. If anyone can tell me how long the Lactulose is usually prescribed for, I would appreciate it. Spring
Guest guest
Hi Spring! Thank you for your e-mail and caring. My ammonia count was 209. My doctor is crazed now about this. I didn't even know I had ammonia levels, but now I do. I think my local doc is going off the deep end on this one! He has me taking extra doses of potassium, extra doses of neomycin and now I cannot have ANY protein. Having to be on a diet with no protein and a diet for diabetes is quite interesting. I just learned I had diabetes about 3 months ago. I do believe it is from my liver -- of course now I blame everything on my liver. I hate to get other symptoms (not the liver) because doctors just want to focus on the liver. I now have the extreme aching in my calves, tingling in my fingers and almost constant nausea. I do not believe it has anything to do with my liver. I think the next time I go to a different doc, I won't tell him/her about PSC. Then I might get a diagnosis other than PSC that the docs have overlooked -- one not so serious. Hugs, Biddy PS: He sort of suggested (I believe -- remember brain fog) that I will have to take it for a very long time. Of course he jokes -- or does he?
