Hi everyone,

I really need a big help for a friend. His daughter is 2 yo with seizures

d/o treated with Topamax. Child is now suffering from loss of appetite for

about two weeks, she used to have good appetite and eat variety of foods.

Now she barely eats and even less - drinking. Showing wt loss! She was

recently weaned off the bottle which parents say she didn't like but even

giving her back the bottle didn't make her drink any better.

Parents also gave fiber supplements, which I thought they should stop b/c

without proper hydration it most likely makes her more constipated not to

mention kids' fiber intake should not be that high. (I didn't want to

overwhelm them with risk of Ileus, it doesn't seem to be there yet, kid has

BM once every 3-4 days, which is not good, but BM is still there).

I recommended to dilute juices like apple juice or any juice the child might

take and give her also fruit shakes and add avocado and olive oil to it,

with or without tofu/milk ect.

I also looked at Topamax - it has wt loss as a common side effect, is there

any other milder medication for Sz for peds?

I don't know too much details, parents are not close friends and where very

uncomfortable talking about their child's illness.

Pediatric RDs, younger mothers..............

If any of you, Ped's RDs who work in the NYC area - I'll be happy to refer

them to you.

Thanks in advance
