Hi - I am going to code for a UA , medicare- do I put the QW on the same line as the UA code or the  99 code? Thx in advance

You are likely not billing them correctly.  Are you putting the QW modifier on the lab codes?  Are you putting yourself down as Referring and Ordering Provider?  Are you making sure that only the correct ICD-9 codes are being used?  Have you called Medicare and asked why you aren’t being paid?

 

The reason to have your CLIA is to comply with federal law, which states that you must have a license to collect bodily fluids (or something to that effect).  Get caught, and you could face $$$ in fines.  Chances of getting caught?  I’m not sure.  Being an ex-Federal government employee, I’m not willing to break those rules myself, but to each his own.

I just paid $150 for my clia waver. Not sure why I meed to do this. Medicare is not paying me for my labs- UA, strep throat, preg test, so why do i bother to submit. UA code is what you put the QW modifier on. I'd have to look at where on the CMS-1500 the other info goes; I just know where it needs to go in e-MDs to be in the right place for my electronic filing.

So I am going to give this a try for what couple of bucks, my suspicion is I am not going to get paid at all. For line 17. i put my name,  line 17 a- I put my medicare no. - some no. w BQ in it,  17 b i put my Medicare individual NPI...Thanks for all the help . will let you know if this works
