,

I was glad to see that you posted again. I would like to help you, but

I

can only post what works for me and as we are all so individual except all

being in pain, it is hard for me to advise you.

I am 53, I have had this illness at least 7 years, my husband thinks

maybe longer as he saw signs back in my 30's, when I was a runner. He

noticed that I have muscle pain that was quite a bit more than it should be.

I was diagnosed in June 2000, and I had being trying to figure out why I was

in so much pain since about Oct 1999.

The first thing I did after being diagnosed was to read everything I

could

on the subject. I either bought or checked out from the library every book

about FMS that I could lay my hands on. A few months later, I joined a

couple of support groups so I could get some feedback from others who are

experiencing this illness.

I found out that there seemed to be quite a range of disablity among

people with FMS and for a few years, I was close to my regular self. Each

year, It is apparent that I am in more pain. Anyway, enough about me.

Question: Tell me about what you are able to do, such as what is your

typical day or week like? Question: What are your resources, do you have

family or good friends that can help you? Question: Other than pain, what

problems are you having with FMS? Remember, I am not a doctor, just a

well informed fibro person. Penny

Dear ,

You might want to consider an anxiety medication such as xanax to help

you through the panic attacks. I personally take .25 mg. Xanax 3 times

a day, and it all but eliminates my fears of being out in public. I

never found a supplement that would work even a little.

Dear ,

This phobia you describe sounds a lot like agrorophobia (? sp), which

is a fear of going out into any kind of situation where you will be in a

crowd of any kind. I suffer from several phobias myselff, the least

rational of which is a terrifying fear of IVs of any sort. However, I

was just in the hospital laast week for surgery for kidney cancer, and I

managed to overcome it for the two days I was in the hospital. Part of

the reason for overcoming this fear was the pain that I was in. My

dilaudid was being dellivered via IV pump, and it was bad enough even

with the IV pump.... I did not want to try it without it. I also suffer

from fear of crowds, especially in shopping malls. This fear does not

extend to stores like WalMart, which is why I say that if WalMart doesnt

have it, then I don;t need it. Heres hoping for some pain free daays

ahead.

hugs and prayers,

---Joan, I have been in touch with Sharon lately. She is

recouperating from her surgery and is in a major FM flare. She has

been helping me get my meds from Canada and other sources. (over

$900/month) She is an angel with wings, I do believe.

I'll email her and tell her she is sorely missed. Probably she just

can't sit at her 'puter very long. carolyn b
