Guest guest
, I can't be of much help since I'm fairly new to this, but I have been on MS contin, Darvocet, Elavil, and Bextra so far. a > I am sure you all have been asked this a hundred times, but I am trying to > compile a list to take in to my psychiatrist on Monday (next week) so she > can tell me what FMS pain meds I can and can't take with my other meds. > Then I am going to take that list to my rheumy next month and be prepared in > advance so when he tries to use my current medications as an excuse to not > give me the pain meds I need, I can say that I have already spoken to my > pdoc and she has approved the use of these meds and hand him the list. > > What do you think? Guest guest
, Speaking from the point of view of a fellow " mental health " patient, in all honesty, the possible interaction between my psychiatric meds and my relief meds NEVER came up. Your rheumy is feeding you a crock! I have bipolar disorder, and for several years before that, I was being treated for major depressive disorder, BY my current PCP. For the bipolar disorder, I take Celexa and Topamax. My PCP has me on Bextra, Oxycontin, and Soma for pain control, and he NEVER brought up any possibility of interactions. Your pain and your mental health issues have nothing to do with eachother...don't let your rheumy do this to you! Best of luck, Jen
Guest guest
There are MANY drugs that cause interactions with each other ESPECIALLY psychiatric drugs!! Please pay attention to what the doctors say. Taking a list for them to look at is good - MAKE SURE that you include ALL OTC meds and herbal remedies that you are taking!!!! There have been deaths resulting from the doctors not knowing about herbal remedies/vitamins. Even if medical conditions are not related, that doesn't mean that the drugs used will not interact. Meds such as birth control and antibiotics interact with each other and the conditions being treated are not related. Some drugs affect how long others will stay in your body... some increase the time therefore making the drug levels higher and some decrease the time making the levels lower. Some affect the absorbtion rate of the meds and you don't get the full affect -- that is NOT what you want for pain meds OR psych meds. Sorry ... didn't mean to lecture :-) a > , > > Speaking from the point of view of a fellow " mental health " patient, > in all honesty, the possible interaction between my psychiatric meds > and my relief meds NEVER came up.
