Guest guest
Hi Jen and , My name is Colleen and I have been here almost a year now. I was Dxed last fall at the ripe old age of 32. I am 33 now and in the last phase of planning my wedding -- it will be on September 30th. When I first was diagnosed, I felt like I had to treat myself very gently -- like an egg. A little time and experience with your own health and symptoms should address that. I am currently seeing Dr. Marshall Kaplan at New England Medical Center (I work in Boston, live in the burbs) and he has told me that I am between stages 1 and 2. If it makes you feel any better, since my Dx, I've gotten engaged, am wedding planning and we are going hiking in the Bavarian Alps for 10 days on our honeymoon. I doubt I'll be doing anything like trekking across the Gobi Desert any time soon, but I feel that Germany has a good health system in place if I should -- God forbid -- get sick on our honeymoon. There are common-sense precautions and then there is allowing a disease to hamstring your enjoyment of life. As for symptoms -- I have itching -- mainly the soles of my feet, some URQ pain from time to time, and fatigue. Since I also have UC (Dxed in '84 at 16) I attributed my fatigue to the UC, despite it being in remission. It really sucks to get this Dx, there is no question about that, but there is no need to act like tomorrow may be your last day on earth, either.
