Guest guest
Hey, I took a few days away from the computer - my son, who lives in PA drove down to drop off his two kids for a two weeks stay. You're welcome for the compliment - I've got the advantage of a BS in zoology (Ms in another field), 15 years of working in the medical field, 11 is social services, and 7 years studying lipo and TC. That doctor in Miami - I don't know his name. All I remember that it was a guy who lived in Texas that flew down for surgery, and had to fly back post-op and was told not to be on his back for 6 months. Kathy M investigated him, but didn't go down for an eval. She's away from her computer right now. Any of the older members (in terms of being on the list) remember this? I've never seen anything he published. Once things settle down, I'll try to find out more info for you. >find this very interesting. do you feel that everyone retethers after >surgery? i am not sure how i feel about that yet. right now, i feel >that 99 % retether. susan. Well, my nsg says that all will form some scar tissue, even went so far as to research to see if ANYTHING new had come out to prevent it for me - and I even, in the past, sent my MRIs up to Columbia for a spinal tumor specialist and a pediatic nsg to look at.. And they said the same thing - There is no procedure that will prevent the formation of scar tissue, and the spinal cord will get stuck again. So - there is that physical retether. But - that doesn't necessarily mean that you will have tethered cord syndrome back, or worse. You can have a physical tether and no symptoms at all. If you're lucky, there will be only a little scar tissue (depends on type of tether, length of surgery, any complications, and abilty to get healed before stressing the cord again which would rip open healing tissue) and there is enough flexiblity from the release that symptoms inprove, or at least stablized. I didn't - but I was stable with my neuro damage from age 1 to 45. The last 12 years have been a real roller coaster, and I had a few good years post-op. (I'm one of those lipo persons, who tend to become symptomatic again.) Hope that helps!
