Guest guest
Sorry to hear the diagnosis. Now you need to have his gastroenterologist refer him to a Hepotologist ( liver specialist)  ASAP! Honestly I am surprised he didn't refer him while you were in his office. One thing you'll leqarn on this forum is how to be proactive with your dad's cirrhosis...and these days you have to be. My husband has non-alcoholic cirrhsosis ( NASH) so I have no experience with Detox, but I know others here will help you! Bobby has so much information on cirrhosis---He's our Big Kahuna here! LOL!! We love him!                                                                            Love,Jill  We don't remember days, we remember moments. Actually i got them back B4 wwe went in the next day, so I could be alil prepared. yes, he does cirrohis of liver. He is going this friday to get a parenthesis(sorry for spelling). he stomach is so big its just so noticable. He was walking in dr. office and you just knew something was wrong with him. Big ol tummy , like 6 months pregnant, and as boney as he is. I noticed teh other day he was rubbing his wrist alot, does cirrohsis affect the bones, or it just maybe arthritic ? Anyways so dr. says he has to quit drinking of course. He is a air force veteran, DO U THINK THAT A VA detox is any better or worse than a private detox. I guess it depends on who anthem pays for. The dr said this is very serious but he is not a needing a transplant. but it can get to that point really quick. Too me that seems very vague. but i am now trying to get to them about the score. Now that we have A DIAGNOSIS....DO WE NOW STAY WE A GASTROLOGIST. He hates all these appt.'s, he is sooo tired by the time we leave. he nevers goes up stairs to get his mail in the hallway, almost all his bills are late.....never in YEARS have i seen my dad be this laxed on things. His landlord said she was shocked to see him pay rent last month late. she said he is always on time. Guest guest
I am really sorry to hear of your father's biopsy results. I guess I am a bit relieved that he went ahead and had one at all. What I am going to say is very very important. His parcipitation in a program of recovery is very inportant if a transplant is going to be a posibility. This is the hard part. He may not choose a transplant. My dad's oldest sister's husband, refused to stop drinking. He lived quite a while even after doctors warned him and warned him. His liver decompensated, and still he drank. The big book of alcoholics anonymous says " An alcoholic in his cups is an unlovely creature " . It is a very very true statement. Liver disease only doubles the unlovelyness. If he decides to go for broke and stop drinking, and live in recovery, (we have to hold on to hope) then please remember the words of my hepatologist. " if an alcoholic stops drinking in time, and stays sober, they may go from needing a transplant to not needing one, and they might live a normal life span. " It means that there is never any sense to say " oh well, might as well drink, since I am doomed anyway " . I am faced with this every day of my life. One last thought. Gastrointerologists have ZERO business messing with people who have ESLD. IN the US, a hepatologists is the appropriate specialist for a patient who has decompensated end stage liver disease, period. I am not a doctor, but this much I know to be a fact. Please take your dad to a transplant center in your area. Usually the large university or teaching hospital is the right place. Larger cities have special private transplant hospitals. These are a fine choice. Please take him to see a hepatologist. The gastrointerologist is not a part of the picture here. Good luck, love, Bobby ________________________________ To: livercirrhosissupport Sent: Wed, October 6, 2010 6:48:00 AM Subject: update on my daddy. Guest guest
I detoxed at home Bev......by myself! I wouldn't recommend that but I didn't know how dangerous it was. My dad took me to hospital but by then all the alcohol had left my blood and the wondered why I was there. I was shaking so bad.....I couldn't sign my name. I know many would not agree with me but marijuana is so much less dangerous than alcohol. I would rather my teenager smoke pot than drink beer! Just don't be driving around doing it. Of course, I wish he wouldn't do anything but there aren't too many people I know who didn't when they were young. Most people outgrow it. I think it's sad so many people become felons after 2 counts of possession. Teenagers are becoming felons because they were caught with a joint more than once. That is really messed up! Much love, Roni > i am fairly new at this myself but i did have to go thru the detox > at the hosp. > before they could treat all my problems i had caused with that > terrible horrible > drug.after seeing my died die from alcholol piosion you would thank > i would be > smart enough to not choose that path but i just drank beer how could > that hurt > me big surprise it has totally destroyed my life.the detox is one of > the most > hardest things i have everydone.you hurt you shake you feel like you > just want > to die or get a drink.i am now sober for almost 2 yrs this mo. > although the > damage is already destroyed my liver. i now have to wait and pray > that i get a > tp.so now i am a big advacate against alcohol it takes over your > life.so good > luck to you and your dad just be there for him it is not a easy > task.if he > already has cirrhosis i do sugest he see a liver dr. > > god bless > > bev,tx > > ________________________________ > > To: livercirrhosissupport > Sent: Wed, October 6, 2010 3:07:13 PM > Subject: Re: update on my daddy. > > You are so humble...but you know way more than me when it comes to > cirrhosis! > And we all appreciate it very much! > > Love,Jill > > We don't remember days, we remember moments. > Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that > take our > breath away. > > ________________________________ > > To: livercirrhosissupport > Sent: Wed, October 6, 2010 1:02:04 PM > Subject: Re: update on my daddy. > > Tee hee, as Barby would say.
