Guest guest
Hi Tersea, I wrote a note last night to say " hello " from my little seat by the campfire we call the Cosmetics Info Group... but did not get around to finishing or sending it because I was too busy.... You have definitely joined the right group if you want straight-up factual information - no BS. This is the strength of this group but it can be a bit scary at first. A high percentage of people on this list lean toward " natural " products but most have come to the realization that absolutely everything is a " chemical " or a combination of chemicals. Unless you are selling unwashed, organically grown flowers & vegetables you are selling something that has been processed to some degree - even if it consists steam distilled essential oils. Therefore, people usually ask for specifics when it comes to " chemicals " . My own insect repellent is an example: Although " natural " by my own definition, I selected the essential oils that contained the correct " chemicals " that repel bugs. In fact, during my design research, I looked first at the studies that discussed the chemicals & then found " natural " or, at least, minimally processed substances that contained those " chemicals " . (most, but not all are essential oils) Staying close to the land, supporting small businesses, supporting sustainable agriculture - these are all good reasons to " keep things natural " . But, the definition of " natural " is often debated. Regarding preservatives and anti-microbials: This is probably the best group on the internet to learn the realities vs the hype (AKA Grapeseed extract & other myths). It can also make for some very entertaining reading. In the end, the most important issues are safety & the effectiveness of your product which is what this group often stresses. Have fun! A. I've visited this once already. " I'll be back. " I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment and so am taking a breather for a spell. Boy, what have I gotten myself into? (smile). BTW, how do I test my products? Do I need to send them to someone or can a home test that I saw on a website do? Thanks again, Teresea C.
