There are many people here like that , in a sense a different level of 4S . Hold onto that thought, otherwise you may pick up new triggers IMO only. It did for me Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone on 3Sender: Soundsensitivity Date: Fri, 2 Jul 2010 00:59:59 -0700To: <Soundsensitivity >ReplyTo: Soundsensitivity Subject: confused I'm al lot confused about myself. So many of you guys seem so much more consistent to me than me. I've read many posts about small water fountains, mouse clicks, keyboards typing bothering people but those things don't bother me .... that is, ONCE I know what they are. If I hear the click click and think it's someone chewing gum I'm annoyed but if I look over and see it's someone clicking their mouse next to their computer I'm instantly relieved and not annoyed even though it's the exact same sound. That seems extra nutty to me. I mean to be consistent shouldn't I continue to be bothered by it? It is afterall the very same noise that irritated me a second ago! The only exception is when people click their pens over and over (if they are the kind with the pen in/ pen out mechanism) it drives me pretty batty, it feels like some crazy torture device in my head. So there's my confusion. :| sigh.

I am like you. If there is a human element attached to the noise, I am angry.

If there is a child or animal making the noise I am OK. Dogs crunching their

pet food? Fine. People making the same noise? Bothered. I am OK when I know

the noise is being made by something inanimate. However people eating or

sucking and licking on television? The channel gets changed.

Yep. Get used to hearing that, here in this one place, having this issue is...get ready for it...perfectly Normal! haha. yes, there are a lot of us on here the same way. i am one of them. Many a time I have been triggered by a mistaken noise. once I realize the culprit is inanimate and not a person, my irritation either goes away or greatly decreases.

I have a theory though. I think it ties in 4s with Misophonia which is the fear of sounds. I think that when we hear a noise similiar to one causing us pain, our mind rushes to the wrong conclusion in a panic, in a desperate offensive to fend off the would-be attacker noise. We're in such a hurry to get away that our brain doesn't fully register that it's not exactly the noise we Think it is. Then when we realize it's not, our brain kinda calms down and goes on about its business. I am increasingly aware of the subtlest-ness of sound. To me, this is a general example, when someone is eating...there is the extra little raspy, sliding sound in the back that drives me nuts. So if I hear a noise similar to it, I jump to freak out. Then when I realize it's just...say...an object bumping something, I realize that that tiny little raspy sound isn't actually there so I'm not truely being triggered. I just thought I was going to be.

Does THAT make sense to Anyone else?Tammy
