Defrag  did not help, disk check and disk clean up wont run, still cant get I Explorer to run/no internet access,  system restore wont run....

In my experience when so many things are unstable it indicates a bad hard drive. Although painful and time consuming I would stop the medical workup and take a more surgical approach with a new hard drive or computer. Computers work much better after a fresh start.

Go into safe mode and then try a system restore.And/or, get another PC, download a runnable antivirus checker that boots from cd and scan.

you should get a new PC or Mac.

you are having a headache with this problem.

I have at home 3 laptops : the very first one: windows xp 2004 , retired because it is too slow.

I have the second one: windows vista 2008 , it became slow. I try not to use it.

I got a Mac book pro and I love it.

I love technology but I know when to move on..

Anyway my 2 cents. adolfo

Did the "run without add-ons" ploy work to get IE working?

I would have to  agree with Dan.  Seeing as so much is behaving in an unstable fashion, and is running extremely slowly, the ultimate reason may be a hard drive that is starting to go bad.  Just got done replacing hard drives in 2 different laptops Dr. Beth Sullivan, DO From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Sunday, March 13, 2011 1:10 AMTo: Subject: Re: Re: frozen laptop...IE add on mess up Defrag did not help, disk check and disk clean up wont run, still cant get I Explorer to run/no internet access, system restore wont run....
