Guest guest
The doctor should be contacted about this. They may have to insert tubing to go to the stomach either through the nose or through the side directly into the stomach. It sounds like a condition known as Achalasia... here is a site that explains this: http://www.uptodate.com/patients/content/topic.do?topicKey=~PYBP8zFhVa5F0B http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achalasia The muscle inside the esophagus are not working properly. The patient has difficulty swallowing. If they eat anything too formed, it can become stuck in the esophagus. If it becomes stuck near the opening that goes to the lung, it can cause the oxygen to be blocked from entering the lung and he may pass out. Or, if the food become lounged in the esophagus, it can cause the saliva they swallow to enter into the lungs. This is quite serious. They can go in and stretch the esophagus to expand it. They can push any food caught in the esophagus to the stomach area. They can insert tubing or provide liquid supplements to use to give him nourishment. Options have to be considered, because he definitely needs nourishment to keep his strength up. Hope this information is of some help to you.
