Guest guest
Here in WA Sudafed, has to bought from behind counter, no Rx, but patients have to sign, and if their name turns up too many placed they get a visit from the local police. Sudafed is an ingredient used to make meth, in "meth labs". That is why it is begin regulated. CCoteMD RE: Allegra-D is a controlled substance??? In oregon, pseudoephedrine is controlled and requires hard copy hand signed rx.Suspect that, given walmart is national, they or the erx vendor (also likely national) use a least common denominator approach and enforce this restriction via an erx 'rule' in the software.Agree it's a crazy situation...Steve hersch -- Sent from my Palm Pre I can’t really answer as I don’t e-RX yet. But, as far as I know, it is not a controlled substance. It might be a “behind the counter†substance like Sudafed is. I never heard that it became controlled. Interesting. I found this unofficial reference: What DEA Controlled schedule is sudafed in?Reply: (by ) That's a great question. Pseudoephedrin e is more aggressively controlled by some individual state laws than DEA laws. On the Federal level, the drug is not in any DEA drug schedule because it not an addictive substance. However, Federal Laws enacted by the 'Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act of 2005' restricts an individual to the retail sale of such products to no more than three packages or no more than nine grams in a single transaction. Additionally, there are some requirements to log who is buying the products. From the DEA website list of controlled drugs: Schedule V Codeine preparations - 200 mg/100 ml or 100 gm Cosanyl,Robitussin A-C,Cheracol,Cerose,Pediacof Difenoxin preparations - 0.5 mg/25 ug AtSO4/du Motofen < /o> Dihydrocodeine preparations 10 mg/100 ml or 100 gm Cophene-S, various others Diphenoxylate preparations 2.5 mg/25 ug AtSO4 Lomotil, Logen Ethylmorphine preparations 100 mg/100 ml or 100 gm Opium preparations - 100 mg/100 ml or gm Parepectolin, Kapectolin PG, Kaolin Pectin P.G. Pyrovalerone 1485 N Centroton, Thymergix However, in brief readings some states might have laws about this. I don't know if this has been covered before, but I electronically sent an Allegra-D 12 hr prescription to Walmart and was told that they could not accept it electronically because Allegra-D is a controlled substance? They were happy, however, to take a verbal order, which completely destroys the efficiency of electronic prescribing. My question is if this is true. They said it is a class 5 controlled substance. My EMR won't a llow me to electronically prescribe controlled substances, and I have a hard time believing that a medicine that can be purchased over the counter is a controlled substance such that it can't be sent electronically. Any ideas? Sieberg, MDsolo - Decatur,IL
Guest guest
I thought that the combining of fexofenadine and pseudoephedrine made it too difficult/costly/time-consuming for the meth cookers to separate. I guess my beef is that Walmart can impose a " class 5 " controlled substance restriction on something that is clearly not a controlled substance. DEA controlled substances cannot be purchased without a doctors prescription, but yet Allegra-D is available over the counter. To me, it's just another of the many perks that will draw hordes of students to primary care. Thanks to all for your views on this.
