Guest guest
I didn't see the article, but I always wondered if there was any connection between the hormones they give to cows here in the USA and the apparent increase in fibroids in American women. You never see anything about it, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was something in milk and beef (because of increased hormones) that relates to fibroid development. Just an idea. Dr. Lee writes about it in his book and I found the connection more than coincidental when giving up red meat and dairy products brought my excessive bleeding from fibroids under reasonable control. (I don't have submucosal fibroids though.) However, I didn't think there had actually been any studies to difinitively correlate the growth hormones in meat to fibroid growth or symptomology. Seems like the cattle industry would not be pleased at such a study. Look what happened to Oprah with her commentary on the subject. If there has been a study, I would sure like to read it. carla
Guest guest
On the other hand, I consume almost no dairy or red meat, although I did until approximately 2 1/2 years ago. The dietary change coincides almost completely with my major bleeding problems [they started approximately one month prior to the dietary change]. I have lost ~60 lbs, again - coincidental with the start of bleeding problems (Don't I also recall that obesity is connected with additional estrogen that feeds fibroids??) If the connections are real, just think how bad I'd be if I hadn't changed my eating habits! -- > >Dr. Lee writes about it in his book and I found the connection more than >coincidental when giving up red meat and dairy products brought my excessive >bleeding from fibroids under reasonable control. Guest guest
, I can relate almost to the letter! Giving up red meat, dairy and the use of progesterone cream has really changed things for me. I wonder where I would be now if I hadn't done this one year ago also! Dr. Lee's book changed my life so much and I am so grateful. Beth

Guest guest
How about bleeding with your huge fibroid? Giving up red meat didn't stop the growth of my fibroid either -- but it did get the bleeding under control. BTW, I never drank milk 'cuz I can't stand the stuff. carla >I haven't eatten red meat in 15 years and drink very little milk and I >have a huge fibroid. > >--- Robyn Markelz wrote: >> Has anyone found that giving up red meat and dairy >> has shrunk their fibroids? >> I have had my fibroids removed twice and now they >> are back again and I want to >> shrink them without having another myo? Guest guest
In my experience, the massive bleeding STARTED when I stopped eating red meat. I am not suggesting it was caused by cutting the red meat out of my diet, I think the two events were coincidental. On the other hand, I can't imagine the bleeding would be significantly worse than it is now, had I continued eating red meat and continued to carry the extra 60 estrogen producing pounds of fat. (Never have eaten much dairy.) As far as what to eat - I eat lots of salads, generally topped by seafood, chicken or crumbled veggie burgers. I also combine beans with either rice or potatoes several times a week, since either combination provides a complete protein. If you like things like chili or lasagna or other things that you make using ground meat, you can buy veggie crumbles that are nearly indistinguishable from ground meat. (I have lots of vegetarian friends who all have to be repeatedly reassured that my chili does not have meat in it, since it looks and tastes like ground meat.) Red meats, aside, if the change in diet involves adding dark greens to your diet there is a medical reason it might decrease the bleeding - most green leafy vegetables are high in vitamin K, which is a natural clotting agent. -- >How about bleeding with your huge fibroid?
