Guest guest
, no I don't walk every day but I do exercise. I so the Tae Bo tapes and strength training. I have trouble going out in the summer cause the pollen count is high and it's humid. My asthma doesn't take kindly to that. No, I haven't checked the hospital yet but that's a good idea. I didn't mean I wasn't going to see a dr just that it's harder to find a dr who accepts our insurance. I may have to drive farther to find one but I will if that's what it takes. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll call the hospital right now. We have 3 hospitals in the area so I'm sure one of them has a program. Beth Still High > My sugar this afternoon is still high. Guest guest
No, I'm not on medication. I don't even have a Dr who is treating this. I'm in the process right now of finding one in my area knowledgeable in diabetes so I'm just handling it myself until then. That's why I'm so stressed. I do eat regular meals and snacks. I also drink 4 or more liters of water a day and I'm still always thirsty! I can't quench that thirst no matter what. I don't drink milk, soda or juice, just water and it's still not helping. Beth Re: Still High Hi, Beth--- Take a breathe and calm down....don't panic. Stress adds to your problems. Eat regular meals and snacks and eat low carb (let your carbs come primarily from vegies; eliminate or really limit things like breads, cereals, pasta, rice, potatoes, corn, etc.----of course, cut out sweets). Drink plenty of water. Did your doc start you on medication? If so, what is it? Exercise does help. Walking has always lowered my bg. Ask questions of this group----they're a wealth of information; and read up on diabetes via the library or Internet. There's a lot of conflicting information, but I found my best info was from people on this list and others who have diabetes. They've told me what works and what doesn't. But remember.....we're all on various medications or perhaps none at all---just controlled by diet and exercise. Someone using insulin may eat a lot more carbs, but cover it with insulin. Someone controlling with diet and exercise may eat very little carbs. Just take it a day at a time and do your best to eat right and get some exercise. Debbie > My sugar this afternoon is still high. Guest guest
Beth, Have you tried WALKING? My husband walks almost every day 4-6 miles. He says he can feel his body urging him to walk when he skips a day. You say you cannot afford to be treated by a doctor outside your insurance plan. I know it's awful the way insurance companies control what doctors we see. But what is the alternative? What do you really have if you don't have your health? What price do you put on your health? Sell a car... sell your furniture... sell your computer... cancel your internet connection, sell anything to get your diabetes under control and get your health back. Does your local hospital have a diabetes program? Ours does and I don't believe it costs anything. You might want to call your local hospital or a local Diabetes association. There must be a support group available near you. Start with the hospital. I hope you feel better soon. Let us know how's it going. Still High > My sugar this afternoon is still high. Guest guest
Beth: There's no reason to panic but you really need to get yourself under a doctor's care asap. A doctor will put you on medication and/or insulin as required. Once your levels are stablilized for a while, it may be possible to get off these treatments. However, you need to get your condition stabilized first. Again, don't panic but act as expeditiously as possible.
