Guest guest
Carla, I'm trying to remember a quote which goes something like " A prophet is without honor in [her] own land " . Have you ever read or seen Ibsen's play, " Enemy of the People " ? I believe it was written in the late 1800s, by the Scandinavian playwright Henrik Ibsen. If not, you might want to look for it to read sometime in your " free " time. I read it in high school, and the impact of it is still with me. The plot goes something like this: A doctor who lives and practices in a spa resort town renowned for the health-giving benefits of its waters discovers that leather tanning factories up-river are releasing toxic waste into the rivers and streams which is making its way into the water supply of the town. He brings this to the attention of the townspeople, whom he believes will be grateful to know of this dangerous threat. Guess what? You got it, the townspeople suppress all info about the danger because knowledge of it would affect their livelihood, the resort and spa business. Not only that, the doctor becomes a pariah for attempting to report an unpalatable truth. Carla, you're in good company. And remember, you're not alone. While most of the rest of us may not be as public in spreading our " truth " as you, we are all passing on the word to other women that just because a treatment is recommended by a doctor does not mean it is the only solution to our problem or even in our best interest. Thank you for being willing to stick your neck out! Guest guest
Dear Carla: Hang in there girl!!!! We need people like you out there. You must be getting under their skins or they would not be attacking you that way. The latest e-mail you got could have come from the last gyn I saw. I hate their snug, superior attitude too! Guest guest
Carla: You may get hate mail from disgruntled gynecologists, but the love mail you get from those of us whom you have helped at least get a different viewpoint should help offset the hate mail. I looked at your site and it obviously took a lot of time and effort to put together. Don't let them get you down. __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I have to be honest. I joined this site to research about my upcoming surgery. I'm 33 and am scheduled for a partial hysterectomy on 19 Oct. I am very surprised by the number of emails slamming gynos and the lack of information shared by women such as myself. It seems there are very few women that have faith and confidence in their doctor. That's very disheartening. ehern9864-@... wrote: original article:/group/uterinefibroids/?start=989 > Dear Carla: > > Hang in there girl!!!! We need people like you out there. Guest guest
, There is a tremendous amount of research information available for you in the archives of this list group. In addition, the Vault holds a multitude of documents that will provide even more information. Some of us have had some pretty awful experiences with a great many gyns. Sorry, but it's true. While it is, most definitely disheartening, it is a pretty much fact that a great many gyns simply do not do a comprehensive informed consent session with their patients prior to a hysterectomy. Nor do they comprehensively discuss alternative treatments. I have found it to be the rare gyn that does -- the exception not the rule. Perhaps if you could share with us why you have chosen to elect for a partial hysterectomy (at the very young age of 33!), we could point you in the direction of more information or, quite possibly, women with similar circumstances will be willing to share their own experiences and perspective on your situation.
