Guest guest
carla, thanks for the plug your energy and dedication are right out there in front -- and it's appreciated. just for the hell of it (ok, call it research), i ordered dr lee's book & a 2-month supply of cream today (2 applications a day for 60 days). will it " work " ? i dunno. are there clinical trials? haven;t found any ... yet (just TRY searching the internet for info on this stuff ... all i can find are commercial sites selling it ... not a great sign). here's my gut instinct -- uninformed, but consistent! --- my hunch is that these remedies are too " one size fits all " to be effective -- and since they're not regulated (not considered a drug by the FDA in this application, more a cosmetic), who knows how much hormone your skin absorbs, and what it actually does? the drs. i've spoken to are uniformly amused and/or categorical about these creams -- i.e., that they just are snake oil. so who is dr lee, anyway? and what kind of info/feedback -- if any -- does anyone have on natural progesterone cream and fibroids?? -- now i'm curious!!! thanks, all. johanna ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
I contacted Dr.Lane's group before opting for UAE. I was too impatient for the amount of time necessary for results, the uncertainty, and also the horrible taste of the concoction you had to drink at fixed times in order to proceed with the treatment. They have the catilage all ready for you to purchase and they will tell you the dosage if you call the office. It turns out costly, but they do send you a sample ahead of time to try it out. I read through much that was published regarding this and there just seemed too many cases in which the results were negative. It once again is based on the theory of depriving the tumor of blood, pretty much the same as the research that gentleman is doing from Harvard with " angiostat " in and I forgot the name of the other compound. Guest guest
That was supposed to be " angiostatin " but someone walked in and I signed off rather quickly. Believe or not, (do I sound like Ripley's), when that research was published last spring and I saw how seriously everything was going in the direction of blood deprivation to tumors, that is when I made up my mind about trying UAE. I figured that if the cancer research people are conceding it such validity, than UAE was certainly worth a shot. Guest guest
Johanna, I will be interested in your progesterone cream results. There are some discussion groups out there that talk about differences in quality of creams, results, etc. Also, have you heard of shark cartilage promoted by Dr. Lane? He has a discussion group as well. I remember reading something recently about a clinical trial at a hospital in New Jersey using shark cartilage to reduce cancerous tumors. I believe it is in progress right now. You never know!!! But, yes, it is important to consider the source, background, and credentials of the promoters of these products. Guest guest
Thanks for the info., Maritza. As with many things, what works for some persons may not work for others. Take care. Guest guest
I've also ordered progesterone cream, at my new GYN's suggestion. Johanna, I'm very interested to know how you make out with it. I'll let you all know how I make out. I'm in the midst of perimenopause and have been having a miserable time of it with irritability (which the progesterone cream is supposed to help), foggy thinking, short-term memory loss, etc. Most recently, I've begun waking up one to three times at night with night sweats (not as bad as hot flashes, but enough to wake me). About a week ago, I started drinking Revival, a soy protein drink to raise my estrogen level, and from the third night since starting it, have had no more night sweats. Love this new GYN -- all her suggestions to me so far have been non-pill, alternative-type things. What a pleasure to find a conventionally-trained GYN open to treatments other than a prescription or removal of body parts. Guest guest
Leonie, please fill us in on all of your gyn's suggestions. I am so curious as I have had much success with soy milk and vitamin e. Also, be sure to keep us posted on the progesterone cream as well. Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Just a comment on natural progesterone cream. I've been using the creams for about 2 1/2 months post UAE. This cream was recommended by my OB/BYN who is somewhat enlightened. Originally I took the cream for terrible hot flashes which resulted post UAE as I may be one of those individuals whose UAE brought on menopause. My hot flashes did not abate from the cream, but many of my perimenopausal/menopausal symptoms have abated including breast pain and insomnia. I concur with Dr. Love and Dr. Lee that you must find a cream with sufficient dosage of progesterone. I tried a " wild yam " cream years ago which did nothing. And I believe that you should have blood tests to make sure that you do not have excessive amounts of progesterone. Dr. Lee offers a schedule and dosage information which I have found helpful. As I haven't read Dr. Love's book, I cannot comment on her recommendations. Also for those who have hot flashes, I have just found an herbal remedy called Women's Transition by Pioneer (a West-Coast company, I believe) which seems to be working after 2 weeks. I tried everything over that past 2 1/2 months and was even going to use HRT, if allowed, after my 3 month post UAE checkup. I even wore a winter sweater this evening, the first all season, as I've been so hot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
