The first indication of edema was pressure indenting on my shins - press on your lower shin for a few seconds with your fingertips, if there are noticeable depressions left when you release your fingers you have some edema. (Now, everyone bend down and put your fingers ....) As the edema got worse I started wearing support hose to keep pressure on my lower legs, keeping the fluid from settling into the tissue there. I don't have a notebook of when I started various treatments (but I think I could find receipts for the support hose if I looked). It seems like I wore them for about 2 years before the transplant.
